I've had my Penguin filter (200gph) in the middle of the back of the tank, and I'm just curious if putting it on one end would generate better water circulation. I get a lot of crud in the bottom, and haven't yet perfected vacuuming my sand substrate without losing sand or totally destroying the slope of my substrate. I tried an end of tank install in my 10 gallon nursery tank (Aqua Tech and the crud visibly gets more mobile and sucked into the filter much better that way, but I'm concerned with my big tank being 48" long that there won't be any movement at all on the far end. If I need to get a second filter and install one on each end I'll happily do it to get better circulation and mechanical filtration going on.

Thoughts?

No one? I guess if it was a bad idea someone would jump in and say "No, don't do it!" Will wait a little longer and if still no responses I'll give it a try and keep a close eye on the water quality on the opposite end of the tank from the filter.

On a funny note... One of my clown loaches gave me a scare today. Found him on the filter intake and thought he was gone. Grabbed the net and he promptly swam away and appears to be just fine! I know they like crazy sleeping positions and places, but that seems far fetched even for a clown!
