if your fish is happy (ie not stressed with horizontal stripes) a girl should have a white dot on her tummy, shorter fins underneath her chin. Show it a mirror a girl may flare but the frill will not go all the way round.
whereas a boy will strut round the tank, have slightly longer fins and show him a mirror and he will flare with a frill all the way round his chin.
