Piscivore (sp?) For A 10 Gallon

Don't know how successful this would be, but have you considered a common all garden angel fish. I had two housed with a shoal of 26 neons, which became 15 neons over night and in a week just the angel fish :(

If they can handle neons I am pretty sure they would cope with fry.

(1) angels large enough to munch on neons are too big for a 10g or 20g long.

(2) convict fry could very quickly outgrow an angel's ability to eat them. you'd end up gorging the angels on fry for a week about every 2 months and then you'd have to figure out something else to feed them.

I thought of angels too, but I don't want to have to get a 30 gallon for angels, I've already had them (been there, done that, got the T-shirt) and want to try something new. I'll ask my LFS about availablity and price.

Maybe a single male Jack Dempsy, they get about 12 inches in length and can survive in a single 20gal tank by them selves. If you start off with one about 6 inches long, it will be able to eat 4 to 6 fry a day. Just a sugestion, not only that, but if you ever run out of fry, he will eat the same pellets as the convicts.

Troutfly, I wouldn't feel right about keeping a foot long fish in a tank less than 3 feet long. Plus, there's a big difference between surviving and thriving. Thanks for the suggestion though!
