I am interested in getting a large kissing gourami anyone ever seen any around ?

Depends where you are and how large - round here they come up at 4"+ every now and then and at 3" regularly (they don't take too long to hit about 5" - about 8-12 months depending on tank, water regime and feeding)

ours is 3" we want one the largest possible and we are down in somerset

Largest I've seen in LFS were the size mine are now - about 5", we're a bit far from you though LOL

I occasionally catch some at random times at all my lfs's but they are usually 3in (guess they are not the easiest to breed but when they do they lay down 10,000!)and their bodies are not proportional young imo but they fill out nicely and they grow fit to the size of their aquarium.
