on wednesday i bought 2 pims. since then (today is friday) one of them swims around like a madman. the other one swims around at what i would call a normal pace but the other guy seems to be on speed or something :D he swims around, mostly in one corner of the tank and does lots of little spins and circles. is this normal, do you think he'll calm down at all?

thanks,
chris

He should calm down, probably just settling in. Consider adding another pictus as they like to be in groups of 3 or more. Also have you got plenty of hiding places for them? :)

do you think the 3rd fish is completely necessary? i will if i have to, but i added them with 2 other fish and the nitrites went up a little bit (.5). if i do add one it won't be until the nitrites are down. and the tank has lots of plants and some rocks and a castle to hid in.

You are right to let your nitrites go down. Some people do keep just one or two but I've always been led to believe that they do better with 3+. We have 3 in our tank and they are all fine together, they like playing chase sometimes but not in an aggressive way! :)

They don't need to be in groups and as adults, are normally territorial.

You are right jayjay they don't need to be kept in groups but they seem to thrive better when in groups. It certainly will not harm them being single or just having two. I didn't intend to mislead anyone!
