Pike Killifish

I live in Canada which is, I guess, a ways from the closest indigenous population in southern Florida but if they arent that rare afterall maybe my local big al's can hunt some down for me. Thanks for the link as well Helter, you are a great resource for livebearing fish, keep up the good work!

Just wanted to point out to UK readers that these are now advertised for sale by Wildwoods (tropicalfishfinder). And they do delivery, too.

cool looking fish - not a killifish of course....

I've nearly bought these before, but backed out. How dependent on live food are they? How canibalistic to each other, and their fry?

How big fish do they eat?

Very, to get to breeding condation they have to eat massive amounts of food. i did how eber starve my female and got het to eat frozen larnce fish but it was an emergency food to tie over.

Quite..... You rarly see males infrount of the female, the male live behind the female, unless he's willing to risk his life.
I use to have 2 males and a female, but only 1 male lived longer than 6 weeks.
To the fry, the female shut's off her feeding responce while giving birth for around 24 hours, so saving the fry is easy if you keep checking, 50-100 fry is an average brood size.

Dunchp i'm sure will be along soon as he's back from Guatemala where he's seen these fish in the wild, my female was 10 inches and the males was 4-5".
Most though are alot smaller in the hobby.

Hi Guys,

I may be interested, but I managed to bring half a dozen young back from Lake Peten in Guatemala so it will not be this side of winter.

I am trying to get some Belonesox with collection data established in the hobby so this, along with the Pseudoxiphophorus anzuetoi I collected are my priority at the moment.

Pseudoxiphophorus anzuetoi, This is the first i've heard of them being in the UK.

However I still prefer jonesi but i'll have to pop over to check them out though :)

Also Dunchp this is a auction in bracknell tomorrow hope to see you there

Hadn't heard of it, sorry I missed it.

You are more than welcome of course. I have three collections of anzuetoi, one collection of obliqua and another 4 or 5 collections of bimaculatus.

I am not sure I could have coped with any more fish anyway.

Sorry it was in basingstoke, was a good turn out with 250 lots there and loads of fish.

I so want more space as you well know :( but one day I'll have the room for them all.
So what size are the anzuetoi when adualt?

These are also one nasty fish :) shame people dont like livebearers coz thy thing their soft littel ethings ;)

Not too sure what size they are when adult.

The first group I collected were quite large, around 5cm, however I then collected a group from Rio Matazano which were far more colourful and were striking in that they were fully sexually mature at around 3.5cm (males) and 5cm (females).

They are in with some Ilyodon furcidens at the moment and are doing OK. I am trying to get them to eat some frozen food at the moment and am using the furcidens to teach them. They are a really striking fish though and are like bimaculatus but with a dark lateral line down their side.
