Pike Forum.

Would be nice maybe, but I dont think this forum gets enough pike related talk to warrant one.

I dont see the point, there is no demand for it. New forums are only created to stop on forum from being overwhelmed by threads on a single topic.
Also this post sould be in the Board announcements and suggestions forum.

i think there should be a pike section. anyone else agree? i could moderate.

Off the top of my head, without researching topics and posts, a pike subforum is way behind oscars, angels, discus, dwarf species such as apistos & rams, and probably several others. If you have ever seen a forum with loads of sub forums it is difficult to navigate, and just looks plain trashy as well. If the owner of this site wanted trashy it would have gone overboard with sub forums long ago. The owner wants an easy to navigate forum, that means no trash.

Moderators are chosen by the owner of this site, William, who is also the administrator. It is not a spur of the moment decision, it is a process where input from the moderating team is taken into account. Previous post history as far as aquatics knowledge, maturity, level headedness, and a long term track record of assisting this forum also adds in. If any of this is missing, or weak, the odds of being a moderator is a real long shot.

Both are right, there isn't enough pike related traffic to warrant splitting the new world forum up.

Really? Freshwater fish, can grow in excess of 40lbs, streamline, superb hunter. Olive colour with white-ish belly and brown/reddish fins and gold/tan-ish (thats a lot of ishs) spots along it's body??

Come to think about it, you would have a job housing a 30lb pike in a tank

Not quite ;) We are talking about Crenicichla species, which are cichlids.

You are thinking of the esox genus: :p

The poster is talking about pike cichlids:

Both however are great fish, would be a dream of mine to house a regular pike, but I think thats out of the question, until I win the lottery (which I will).

so your saying to split up the new world forum would be trashy? i think it would be easier to navigate. when you have a forum for one specific thing people get better answers. if you had a forum for oscars angels and so forth you wouldnt get as many mixed answers. a far as the moding part...i doubt there are many people on here who could teach me something about crenicichla. not saying there isnt more for me to learn, just saying i try to keep my self on top of the game when it comes to pikes. im sorry not for arguments sake, but i totally disagree. i love this site but there is always room for improvment. i think it would make answers more accessble due to the focused attention on that one forum. to have all new world cichlids in one place is so vague. it must be hard to moderate something so vast. there is no end to it. just dropping an opinion. i mean what the heck right...its all in good fun.

and cheers to you william for a great site!!

also i dont mean to be a jerk by any means but i could show you another forum that is like how i said. i know everyones response is going to be "well then go on that forum." and i do. i just believe that the people there are more concerned with being better than the next person.

What I'm saying is sub-dividing any forum too much makes it difficult to navagate, confusing, and it does look trashy. Here's a few I ran across, I don't make it a habit of keeping tabs on forums that hurt a person's mind to use; http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/

This one was in the news recently, the bottom gets pretty confusing; http://www.stormfront.org/forum/

Often info about one species can be used effectivly at times with other species. I use discus ideas breeding angels, I'm sure there are other examples of breeding & keeping of different species that would relate to each other.

You are obviously quite knowledgable about pike cichlids, nobody is questioning that. As I stated, that is just part of the criteria when being considered as a mod here. I also agree that there is room for improvement, as there is in most any situation, and your idea and concern is appreciated. Since you are quite knowledgable, perhaps some breeding info would be nice, a really good original article could lead to a pinned topic, which this area needs more of.

i agree, with both of you guys, u would definitely get much more knowledgeable answers if u made subforums for even each genus of cichlids (which i agree, i would also prefer) but i also agree it may end up looking a bit "trashy" i dunno, u guys sort it out, i really have no say in this topic.

although you may be right on the part of having more precise answers, i feel that the sub forums will be less inactive and therefore appeal less to people. i like this site because there are 2 or 3 threads created in each forum, and also the fact that people reply back.
