Pihranas

75g minimum for 3 rbp's and need to be in a group of at least 3 in almost all cases or they will kill each other off.

Exo's won't work with piranhas as they will soon become an expensive snack. Nothing that swims around will be good for piranhas. In some cases plecos work but it's hit and miss and that's ONLY with the Pygo's. Nothing can be added to Serra's at all in general.

Pacu's would be a bad idea and get eaten in time. They have no way of defending themselves in a shoal of piranhas.

The LFS I work at got an accidental (don't ask me how...) shipment of exodons so we threw them in the RBP tank ~115 gallons, 6 RBPs and 8 exodons. The exodons actually harassed the piranhas by pecking at their sides until scales flew off then they ate them. =\ Havn't lost one yet, we sorta put that tank on display since nobody knows what an exodon paradoxus is and everyone thinks RBPs will tear your face off if they had the chance.

But anywho, I've heard mixed reviews about the whole exos+rbps...so yeah, it's probably best NOT to put them with piranhas but you could give it a shot.

guys at my lfs which is family owned they have a tank that is 240 or 260 gallons cant remember and they have RBP in with a red tailed catfish (WHICH LIKE PACUS SHOULD NOT BE KEPT BY THE NORMAL FISH KEEPER DUE TO THE HUGE SIZE OF THE FISH) and he says the catfish is ten times meaner than the RBP but that wont help b.c a red tailed catfish is out of the question

I'm not one to thikn all piranhas will tear your face off if given the chance. Most piranhas from the pygo species and especially nattereri's are extremely skittish and shy fish afraid of their own shadow and that's why you have to keep them in shoals to give them the feeling of protection.

Exodon's are not as shy and will be the pursuer for the beginning but in time the piranhas will kill them, especially if they go without feeding? Are these mature piranhas? if so it will be sooner than later.

RBP's are NOT mean fish at all. In no way shape r form are they mean or aggressive. Think of them like an Oscar. Oscars, imo, are the wimpiest of the big ciclids in most cases but they get a bad rap because they eat everything that will fit into their huge mouths. That doesn't make them mean or aggressive, just hungry and bigger than the prey.

I don't suggest anyone getting rbp's if they want an outgoing/aggressive/mean/kill everything bloodthirsty killing machine. They are just not that kind of fish and you will just end up unhappy and neglect the fish.

If you want a piranha that will kill anything and everything on site you will have to go to the Serralamus species. Specifically a S. rhombeus. It will have to be kept alone because anything that's in there will be killed.
