as you can see the eyes are still bulgy and have a whitish ring round them
was this caused by the stress or do i have a secondry problem eg one i will need to treat with medication also i got him in the net and he is bleeding though the gills and the abdomen is very bloated i think he has taken a very nasty blow to the side (i read that the fish that attacked him goes for the side of the fish as its very vulnerable  this could have caused lots of internal damage couldn't it ????)

or could this be plain old dropsy and a bit of pop eye due to an internal parasite would this cause the bleeding form the gills i would like to know what treatment is the best one to use as i normally dont use them that much the last time i had to use medication was 5 yrs ago to treat my discus tank for hex

The cause of dropsy and pop-eye is usualy an internal bacterial infection and I would think this is the case in this situation as well. If the fish has an internal injury there is little you can do besides offering excellent water quality and reducing stress. It would likely die though anyway and I think this is unlikely. I think you should treat with an anti-internal bacteria med. An antibiotic added to food would be ideal though maybe impractical. Make sure all the water parameters are good and isolate the fish so it isn't stressed or attacked by tankmates. A small amount of salt could help with healing if it has any external injuries and should not interfere with medication.

so if the fish has an internal injury i would be unable to save the fish ???

the fish that attacked the dempsey was a buttikoferi so it could have injured the fish internally (i know that i should have not put the tilipa in my dempesy tank but i had a problem with the electrics in the kitchen and had to put him in the tank with this dempsey while i was rewireing the kitchen :( )

i will treat him with the correct meds i have him in a hospital tank at the moment which i have added salt too

thanks for the reply
