okay, well this is just an idea. i brought it up in the suggestions sub-forum so anyone wanting to enter, can!
all i'm asking is to wait until the 16th of May before sending your photos to me. this gives you atleast a week to take or find your best photo and gives time for feedback on how people think this "Photo of the Month" can be organised.

i am personally volanteering (if thats how you spell it) to give prizes to each Month's winner. Of course the first month's winner won't be getting a prize as it's just a test to see if this proves popular or not.
what do you guys reckon the prize could be?

i figured, to get us going, the first month (June) should be a general fish photo of the month. So, take any photo of anything fish related and it will be entered. problem is... rules!

i understand not everyone has access to photoshop or similar software so thought any photoshopped photos should be disqualified. i have been on computers almost my entire life so i will be able to tell the difference between an edited photo and a genuine photo myself. i'm sure if i am in doubt, moderators of the forum would be able to help me out.

so, if anyone has any questions, suggestions or advice, it would be great appreciated!

i'm looking forward to see the results :D

You reckon? cos i beg to differ - although i think its a great idea, i think people who edit pics and make them fun by doing so add a lot more entertainment to it and enjoy it more.

hummmm, that is true. maybe there could be like a challenge each month? and every so often there could be a Funny Month.

i just thought it may have been unfair for people who don't have access to photoshop etc and see people with really good photos where a fish has really contrasted colouration and the background is completely black, which also brings out any colour in the fish in the photo. i don't know lol lets see what others think.

should editing be allowed?

The thing is, if people are good at editing, and i mean really good, they will be able to do it without anyone noticing anyways so even if you dont allow it, people will do it imo

If editing isn't allowed, how would you control situations like those who dont have access to good quality cameras, those who have show tanks with black backgrouds designed for taking pictures of fish in, those who are more skilled at taking photos...

If it's a question of "it's not fair", there are a lot more factors to take into play is all I'm saying.

and what other factors are these?

this is the idea of this post, to get people talkin about how it should be organised.
i mean, i don't wanna just say it should be done like this, this and that and expect everyone to agree, i want people to take part in how it should go about collecting the photos and what should and shouldn't be allowed etc.

One of the main problems you do have though is... people could just go take a pic of other peoples fish ie the lfs, the fish might not even be thiers, is that fair?

Infact, the more i think about this, the more im thinking its not so much a good idea to give prizes

Haha.

Yeah... I have never seen prizes given before.

But to be honest, even easier than taking a photo at LFS - Google image search.
Are you really going to check each one aginst Google, on all pages?!

Or even stealing photos from other forums etc.

I'm not saying it's not a good idea but... :S one to be thought over.

Its going to need a right bloody good thinking over too lol

no, that isn't fair. its usually easy enough to tell the difference between home aquaria and fish tanks in the lfs.
any doubt, further evidence shall be asked for, such as other photos of the subject entered in the home aquarium.

to explain what i meant earlier a little further...

something like this, for example;
2481-JangoFett.jpg

should not be entered.

nor this;

nor this;

this is a prime example of what i think should be disqualified too;

although it looks genuine, the main part of the photo has been cut out and stuck onto a black back ground. this intensifies colours in the orginal photo which gives a much better photo.
i personally class this as cheating but if people think this should allowed then it shall be allowed.

any photos on the internet can easily be traced back to their original domain. but once again, a few more photos of the fish can be asked for. members signatures and stuff are sure to either add up or not.
i personally don't see this as a problem but if other users do then it can be called off.

Nahhh, your getting way to silly with this....

asking people for proof basically lol, they are going to think... cant be bothered with it and will not attract them to it..

As for editing pics, why not do something to intensify your tank, after all, the all idea ia to have fun and be creative aint it...

I peronally think your going way to in depth for what not allow and what to allow...

Idea is getting more and more beyond me now the way your on about running it.

how would you go about organising it?

Picutre of the month.........

Basically - no prizes just for fun....

All entries 1 pic per person...

Editing allowed, be creative as you like.

People who use pics found on google search engine is allowed (as it is a just for fun, so good finds of pics is welcome)

Thats just of the top off my head, more would be added.
