Is it safe? Absolutely. They use it to treat water in some coutnries.
Do you need it? Absolutely not; especially in a new tank. Plus, it gets quite expensive after a while.

Bottom line: if your water isn't loaded with phosphate, don't bother with it. Otherwise it may not be such a bad idea...

Hi OddBod :)

I think that would go into the category of things to hold on to, "just in case." ;)

I've only had to use them for a short period of time when I fed my fish too many algae wafers. It did a good job clearing up the cloudy water that resulted. Otherwise, I never use them.

If you are lucky, and feed your fish right, you will probably never need it. :D

Hi thanks good to know, my lfs informed me today that i should use it and change it every 5 to 6 weeks at £6.99 a pop, i will take your advice and monitor my levels to see if it is required.

He did say that the mains water here in the Isle of Man is loaded with Phosphate so i will check it out.

Ta again for the tips :hey:
