Phosphate Filter Pad

I didn't know whether to put this in plants or hardware.

I got a HBH Phosphate Filter Pad and was wondering if I could use it in a planted tank. It says

The use of the phosphate pad will... reduce nutrients used by algae

but won't it also reduce the nutrients needed by my plants?

It will, but most plants don't need a great deal of phosphate.
algea being a simple plant form require a lot of phosphate to bloom.
