You will be better off buying a liquid test kit. You can get them for about $5 and they will do several hundred tests. The strips are less accurate and a pack will generally only have enough for 40 or so tests for about the same price so they are more expensive.

If you don't have test kits for ammonia, nitrite & nitrate, I would suggest buying a Master Test Kit what has all of those plus pH and high pH. You can probably get one for about $25. It is well worth it.

another bilion dollars shipping if you live in canada

As modern hamlet said, the more you buy the more you save on shipping. I think Big Al's shipping starts at something like $6.95 but only goes up an additional dollar with every $10 or $15 dollars so a $100 purchase ends up only costing about $9 or $10 for shipping unless you get something heavy like gravel which is extra. You can always stock up on things like filters and dechlorinator that you will need to help lower the shipping (per item). i buy Stress Coat by the gallon from them. At $24/gallon, it sure beats paying $5 or $6 for a a 16 oz bottle ($40 to $48 per gallon) at the LFS.

Another option if there are Petsmarts near you is find the product on their website, print out the page and take it to the store. Here in the US they will match the price AND you don't have to pay shipping. Big Al's may even do that too.
