Dear friends,
How can i lower the pH of my water without add any chemicals into the water?

Tiesto.....

You can lower PH with-out using bottle chems, but this also determined by and will affect your KH / GH. Before we get to involved can I ask what it is at the moment & why you want to change it?

:D :D

It is possible, but the chemicals available such as PH-Down are absolutely harmless to the fish, and you can add carbon filtration to your system to clear out any waste chemical residue that may stay in the water later

Well, i have a 2ft" aquarium with 30 neon tetra's. my pH is 7.2. most ppl recomend that these fish should be kept at pH level of 6.5 - 6.8 no more
that's why id like to lower it slighly to be acid. i have ph down & up chemicals but ppl dont seem to reccomend them. that's why i was after a natural way to lower it, could somone possibly give me any info on how to lower the ph without adding any chems?

Thank you.

First off.................

A ph of 7.2 is not out of the norm for neons!!! IMO you would do more harm than good by fooling with the ph.

If you still wish to lower it, than use peat moss in your filter. This is the most natural way to lower the ph and it will give the water a slight yellowish tinge that the neons may enjoy!!

Tiesto,

I also have a small school of Tetra's. Mine are in a pH of 7.4 and whilst not "ideal" it is with-in a range that they will find acceptable. I am not being pedantic for the sake of it, it's just when we start trying to alter PH it has an impact on other parts of the water chemistry. As with most fish, a stable pH value (which is harder to keep when using the bottled chems) is much more important than a specific one. Most fish will thrive within a range, as long as it isn't too far from their preferred waters. Your "normal" pH is close enough so as not be worrying for the Tetra's.

I would seriously suggest leaving the pH as it is. I hope that helps. :D
