Okay so I misplaced my two bottles of dechlor and my betta's tanks seriously needed water changes. I decided to use the ph neutralizer 7.0 because it removes ammonia, chlorine, and chloramine so I figured it would be okay to use since my tap water's PH is at around 7.0-7.2 anyway. So I cleaned Angus's 5 gallon and put the right amount of the PH 7.0 powder in his tank. I slowly acclimated him for about 15-30 minutes. He started darting around the tank, then swam to one corner. Where he stopped flapping his fins and was breathing very slowly. He started to tilt to where he was kind of just floating on his side. I panicked and netted him out and stuck him in his old tank water (thanks goodness I didn't throw it out yet!)

So he started to swim around normally in his old tank water while I scrubbed out his 5 gallon. I searched frantically for the dechlor as I already had a 10 gallon with Puck in it that was drained to about 2 inches of water. :/

I know my mom always likes to move stuff around and I usually fill my buckets up at the kitchen sink. I rememberd she puts old decorations and nets under the sink. So I looked and there were my two bottles of dechlor in a breeding net! I was SO relieved. I put Angus back in his 5 gallon with the dechlor and he swam around so happy!

I definately thought I was going to lose Angus that night. :-( I am SO glad he is okay now though.

Thats gotta be scary!! Glad he's ok. My mom moves around my stuff too and I am always searching for things!

He's my oldest and first betta and I would have cried so much if he would have died. I will never use anything besides the dechlor I usually use from now on.

Glad to hear Angus is okay. :)

This post freaked me out a bit because I've lost a betta once and it was when I used normal conditioner and Wardley's Bullseye 7.0 together. :rip:

I was new to fish back then and the LFS girl said I needed it to 'regulate the pH' or something. I've since learned that less is more when it comes to fishkeeping and chemicals.

But maybe there is something harmful to bettas in pH altering chems? :dunno:

Hi Raechal,
How is he today...his usual self?
Yes, he even made a nice bubblenest. He usually makes really thin ones that usually fall apart in a few hours, but since I moved him to his new 5 gallon he has made a very thick nice bubble nest. Not as big or thick as some of my younger boys, but I was very impressed. His tank is now right next to my bed so he gets most of the attention :D

Hi Raechal,
I guess his brush with death made him appreciate life more, so he's building the best bubblenests he can and appreciating his 5g.
