Fish Fanatic
I recently lost my betta by being a little overzealous with his new tank (put him in too soon, blah, blah, blah). His previous home was a bowl of purified water with aquarium salt and some Quick Cure ( was very ill around Memorial Day, but recoverd nicely).
New tank does NOT have the purified water, but does have a filter system which has been running for three days, aquarium salt, and the pH is running above 7. I've been adding pH down slowly over the last couple of days in preparation for a new betta, but it's not coming down.
I've read bettas can adapt to a higher pH, but certainly don't want to put another fish through what occurred previously. Any thoughts would be most appreciated.
Additional information, I purchased a black molly so the tank wouldn't be empty, and he is doing well. My betta book says black molly is okay companion; thoughts on this would also be appreciated. My previous betta was very calm, not a jumper etc., so I've never actually seen one flare and become aggressive.
Thank you advance.
