Yes it's the API freshwater master test kit.

Ok so I took 3 bits of media and a cutting of the top filter spong and put it in the small tank filter, that ok?
 
That's perfect it should deal with the ammonia and nitrite quite well in a few days.  I'd just keep testing it though until you get zeros for BOTH ammonia and nitrIte.  These are both toxic to fish.  
 
 
With your nitrite up to 1.0ppm, you'll want to do another water change (large volume) to bring it as close to zero as possible.  I'd suggest you use a dechlorinator that deals with ammonia and nitrite in your water, like Prime - although Stress Coat+ (make sure it has the PLUS) also works well.  If you have ammonia in your tap water, that can be a problem, and a product like Prime deals with it and makes the ammonia non-toxic to the fish, while the biofilter has a chance to catch up to deal with it.
 
A 'neutral' pH is 7.0, but most fish can tolerate 6-8.  The pH will be a little high when you first start your aquarium, but as time goes on it should stabilize.
