Petspa

It's for lazy git pet owners who cant be arsed learning how to wash their cat *if it needs it* properly.

And I bet the units aren't in the UK either...something makes me think this one's from the states.

Yes, that is one very bad idea from the USA. However, we do have a few good ideas like dental hygiene and Alcoholics Anonymous, which are things that seem to have deluded the UK.

Before you get your panties in a bunch, I'm just trying to show the pointlessness of misinformed stereotypes. Not necessary.

I didnt watch it, would never watch something like that, I have grown up with exotic breed cats my intire life, and have never ever bathed my cats before.

Cats dont need to be bathed, they are spotlessly clean and will clean them self from head to toe just to get rid of a little bit of dirt, even if it takes all day.

If your cat was extremly dirty, I guess you could put it in the sink and wash it gently, but you really need to do this from a kitten age to get them used to it.

Seriously, I think the animal cruelty posts need to be stopped. Its getting beyond a joke.

Now that was not nice

We may have a large "lazy git " to responsible pet owner ratio but blame tv and the radio and the Pres. ..... ...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................There must be somthing in the water..........

Oh no I didn't mean that americans are lazy gits - far from it - we have more over here I'm sure lol! You just have to look at the dole queue to see that (and no that's not be saying all unemployed folks are lazy either - considering I am one!).

As for stereotypes (cant remember who posted the bit about all folks in the UK having bad teeth), I must say I am inclined to wonder about the state of animal welfare in any country which sees declawing, debarking, ear cropping etc for convenience as acceptable. I dont for one minute think our people are perfect - we have some real animal welfare problems of our own - but our animal welfare laws are on a whole superior to the US - that is what I meant. They're not perfect (if they were, there'd be no greyhound racing for a start!), but at least we're headed in the right direction, there must be a demand for this kind of convenience in the US if they have opened them in several stores?

To be fair wherever you go there's going to be idiots who want a convenient toy rather than a companion - no matter the country. You just have to look at all the dogs in our rescues to know it's not just limited to the US. We're just a tad ahead of you on the law side of things.

If that had have opened in the UK, there would have been scores of protesters. Obviously in the US these things are more acceptable if the customers are lining up to use them. It's not a stereotype, just an observation.

It could be any country and the device would make me sick.

People post animal cruelty things so everyone can see them and know theyre there, not to ignore them. There should be a warning in the Topic title then, but don't click it if you don't want to see it. Theres no reason to stop posting them, this is an animal lovers website, and some people are clueless to the cruelty that goes on, by posting about it, people become more and more aware about it. Im a member of PETA, and with this topic, have already put it a request for a petition against this Petspa.

That looks extremely stressful for the cat, it looked terrified! Everybody knows that cats hate been kept in confined spaces and (at least for most cats), they hate getting soaked in water too- the people who did this actually seemed to find this amusing too. Grr, it boils my blood it makes me so angry when i see people subjecting animals to cruel and humilating acts for their own personal amusement :< .
Secondly, cats don't need to be washed! A healthy cat will clean itself, most cats will spend long periods of time cleaning themselves everyday- the only time you get smelly/dirty cats is when the owners force them to live in rancid/dirty conditions. Long haired varieties of cats can get matted and dirty fur (although this is entirely due to the fact that many long haired varities were bred to have long fur by people and the cat is not evolved to live/deal with it well), but this is easily sorted out by brushing the hat and trimming the fur back in the problem area's.

"sigh" Really...It really makes you wonder about the intelligence and moral values of some people in this modern society. Whoever made this "spa" of horror certainly has a cruel and arrogant sense of humor, no animal should be subjected to that.

People just should not use this thing - then there would be no profit for it.

Ok slow down a second. If you read my post a little more carefully, you'll see where I said that my aim was to show the pointlessness of misinformed stereotypes (using the two that first came to my mind about the English - bad teeth and alcoholics). Everybody has heard of the stereotypical American being stupid and lazy, but again, stereotypes are usually misinformed. If you didn't mean to say that Americans are all "lazy gits" then please ignore my post in response.

However, please don't assume to know that Americans across the country are sticking their pets in modified washing machines, or that we are even "lining up" for such a thing. Being both an American and a frequent pet store customer, I've never seen or heard of that contraption until I saw the video posted here, and I'm just as appalled. I would also have to agree that certain modification procedures are unacceptable, and that the British are a step ahead in making them illegal. I also know plenty of Americans that would agree, but unfortunately it's still something that's practiced. Not all Americans are chopping off their pets' claws/ears/larynges/etc. Which again brings me to my point that most stereotypes are misinformed.

No I didn't mean US folks were lazy, I meant whoever would use it must be lazy. Could be in the US, UK, Timbuktoo - but only lazy git owners would use it. That's what I meant. Cats dont need baths, but if they do, you can do it much more humanely than sticking it in a large machine and letting it throw itself around in fear.

And like I said, there's animal cruelty and cruel fads all over the world, not just the US or UK. And the same goes for good loving pet owners. I'm not misinformed, I know there's good and bad in all of us - wherever we come from. But you could only get away with it in the US ;) lol

I have to disagree that cat's don't need to be washed. I have an outdoor cat, and she was raised from birth to be a state showcat, meaning she has her claws clipped occasionally and a monthly bath. She goes outside and gets herself dirty, and though she can get herself washed, the smell remains. Her fur is overall much silkier and her skin is more hydrated with the shampoo; while brushing is efficient, it is not an all-purpose solution, especially for long hair cats.

I think this video was made to be "Funny". A spoof if you will. These contraptions are not sold in the US as far as I know and even if they were, no one in there right mind would pay $17,000 for one!! That's absurd. If it were to somehow show up here, animal advocates and peta would go nuts. It's a cruel devices and you can see that by the movie. However, I doubt it is real. No sense getting all your hackles up about it! :good:

I will agree with KJ that some cats do need bathed and for that matter some don't mind. After working at a vet clinic for 3 years I saw my fair share of cats that needed baths! We also had a groomer on site who was wonderful working with them!

i'm surprised that no one else here has commented upon the fact that this contraption is almost guaranteed to destroy an animal's hearing :( the noise alone would be horrific, but with all of those horizontal jet sprays, at least one of them is going to hit the ear directly. can we say ruptured ear drum?

--edit--
frankly, i wouldn't be shocked if this was an actual product that someone was trying to sell. but i'm astonished (and disgusted) that any pet owner would actually think this was a good idea.

Im sure ive seen those advertised for sale somewhere in the uk, but they were for dogs. I wouldnt put any animal in them though.
