" I heard bettas like small tanks" (vases, cups, little fish bowls, ect)

" Bettas eat each other"

" there's a difference between female and male betta's? How can u tell?"

" the bettas with pretty colors are males" (sometimes ture)

what have u heard?

Well the first is always debatable...they certainly don't like huge tanks, especially tall ones, even a 20g can be a bit much for a betta if the flow is anything other than minimal to none. What they most often do is hide in a corner....

But I could have a 9 foot long tank but only 8 inches high and a betta would LOVE it. The myth about them liking small tanks is because they come from shallower waters in thailand and se asia (rice paddys and such) however, yes, the paddys do dry up, but not into extremely extremely shallow puddles you'd see on the corner of your street like people think. Thing with bettas is to try and have little to no flow in the tank and not a tank with too much height. Bowls and small "beta homes" are both that. Of course, they're not close to ideal for a betta, but that's probably where that myth came from.

They don't eat eachother lol...

I've heard bettas get the size of my palm though, lol.

" I heard bettas like small tanks" (vases, cups, little fish bowls, ect)

After owning many bettas over the years, I have found that they differ mostly with personalities. Some like small tanks, some don't. My sister has one that gets unhappy and lethergic if you put more than a few inches of water in it's bowl, so she's got him in a very wide bowl. I had a betta once that loved to play in the air bubbles from the stone, and he frolicked in them all the time, and he was in a 25 gallon deep with other fish. Most of my bettas did best in a 5 or 10 gallon tank, though, after I started using tanks...

" Bettas eat each other"

Male bettas are very territorial and will fight to the death. When they flare, usually they're being territorial, but not always. That's why you should never keep two together, although I have read that if you have really long tank, you can keep 2 as they will each stake out their own territory and respect it. But I am not altogether sure if that is true as I have never read of anyone successfully doing that or seen it anywhere. Females can be kept together.

" there's a difference between female and male betta's? How can u tell?"

I have kept both male and female bettas. You can tell the difference easily. Males have lovely vibrant colours and long flowing fins, while females aren't as vibrant and don't have any long flowing fins. Not all females have stripes, but most do. They're especially noticable in the lighter females. They usually have horizontal stripes, which become vertical when they are ready to mate, or so I have read. Although I have seen the vertical stripes on the females at times, I've never really seen it alot when mating.

" the bettas with pretty colors are males" (sometimes ture)

I have seen some females with lovely vibrant colours, but in most cases the male's colours are much more vibrant.

I don't know of every type of betta and the only claim I can make is that I am not very professional at all LOL So there could very well be other types of bettas with characteristics with males and female that I just don't know about. The only thing I know for sure is that bettas have a wide variety of different personalities and what works well for one betta, might be completely different story for a different betta.

Bettas dont like tiny cups, but they dont ened big 20g tanks. They live in Rice padies that arent very deep and dont have much swimming room becasue they are so bogged down. If they lived in a HIGE space, you wouild only have 1 male, becasue he would kill the others.

We had a trade-in at the aquarium I work at not to long ago. It was a 3 maybe 3 1/2 inch betta. It was stunning!! I dont know how big your palm is, but they can grow pretty big. I was more stunned about how fat he was .

Betta do not fight to the death. If they have room to run, the loser will swim away and leave the fight. Having 2 betta in a really long tank isnt really such a good idea, but it can be done depending on your skill level.

If you adequatly plant the tank and put some fast-moving fish in there too, maybe some danios or some (G)WCMM in a 5+ foot tank you could probably get away with having 2 male bettas in the same tank.
