Went in to get some dog food and as usual i had a look about the tropical fish section..

There where bronze corys at £2.99 which is fair enough (even though most other lfs near me sell them at £1)

Now the lost the plot part is when i came across some albino corys, they where 1" in lengh and just normal nothing special common ones.

There was no price on them and while i was there, thought ok il buy a couple, and to my amazment, when i asked the lady how much they was, she said £15 each.. i said are u sure that cant be right surely, she got the manager and he checked in the book and yes it was correct, £15, what are they thinking?

There is 3 other lfs near me and 2/3 do them at £1 each and the 3rd do them at £1.99, how can pets@ home sell them at £15 each?

Crazy

Lol, they must be the newly discovered gold plated albino Corydoras :hyper:

My coreys were £8 each, or 3 for £15, and I thought that was OK! But i am new to it all!

Sounds like a typo when someone was putting together the price list-someone added an extra 0 on the end. Either that or they're pricing based upon the theory that if you know you're stuff, you won't be coming into their shops...

p@home sell spider plants as aquatic for gods sake i know they charge 35 quid each for a lovebird which is phenomanal seen as i cant shift them for just over a fiver lol it amazes me they have any livestock customers at all
scot :good:

I like to think that I know my stuff pretty well and I quite enjoy going into my local P@H, especially now they have refurbed and started to do marine (including frogfish).

well I think you're obviously thick for shopping there :p :D

seriously though, they do seem to be refurbing a few of the stores and although none by me have been refurb'd so i can't comment on the new ones, feedback on the forum has been generally fairly good. so lets all hope they're cleaning up their act. :D

That wasn't a dig at pets at home-I've only been to one, and have nothing against them-although there stock at the store I went to wasn't as extensive as either of my LFS's.

But would you pay £15 for an albino cory?

if someone wasn't aware of their actual value, or didnt know any better then yes, which is unfortunately how P@H seem to operate in my experience of them

So because one store wasn't as extensive in stocking (remembering it is a general pet store and not a specialised fish store) you have tarred every one of over 200 stores with the same brush. Seems quite a rash judgement, non? ;)

I wouldn't, but then I wouldn't pay any amount of money for a cory; I don't really do FW any more and certainly don't look to buy any (preferring to let tanks' stock thin down and gradually change over to SW).

First off are we sure they are albino and not leucistic? Secondly, are we aure that is the intended price. Much of the pricing in P@H is fairly automatic, even their SW which at my store are hand picked from TMC. They had two frogfish at £70 each, but after properly checking offered the pair for £64. Sometimes enquiring politely and informing of other nearby stores will yield better results than rushing to TFF to moan about P@H

I'm not willing to get into an argument about an off the cuff comment that was meant to elicit a brief chuckle from forum members-which Miss W seemed to understand.

Either it's a mistake in the system or they were something like albino sterbai's which do command a high price. And at a quick glance look the same.

It was just a normal albino.

I been in again since and had a word with the manager about it and they found that the price was wrong, apparently the new pricing book had many errors in it.

They have sorted it now and the price of them is £2.99

The manager was actually very nice and pleasent, he even thanked me for coming in again and making sure they had not got it wrong and also thnaked me because if i had not of done that, they would not of noticed the other errors.

I sat there with him for over 30 mins helping him look over the prices and checking the errors, he even offered me a couple of fish for free, i did not take them though as my intention was not get something for free by helping.
