I doubt, other than fishkeepers and professionals people research fish. I just can't see it being one of those things.

Compare it with being a die hard soccer fan but never ever kicking a football? Its just not the same.

Your either in fishkeeping or your not.

So do you like them then or have you just found a big interwebs wooden spoon?

Zoology comes to mind.....

Personally, I don't mind pets at home. I buy my water conditioners etc from there. Because its the same everywhere more or less.

As for the fish I have been known to spread it around.

James.

rdp, thats... thats just... you know awkward altogether :)

This is the worst thread I have ever seen, everything is wrong with it, the spelling, the question choice in the poll, Pets at Home is a chain company that franchises its stores of to people rolling in the Benjamin's, they then instate a manager, who will select staff to work in different departments, the knowledge of the manager will go a long way into selection of staff, if they know quite a bit about fish keeping he'll be looking for candidates that are knowledgeable, this knowledge could come from anywhere, people, books, forums, experience, you don't have to have experience to be knowledgeable.

I suggest that this thread is forgotten about because it's not very good at all, all you're doing is stirring up a load of trouble, Pets at Home is a good company, some stores are good and some stores are bad, you can't base your opinion on 1 or 2 stores, you must visit more than that for your thoughts to be even slightly valid, you may think your local is crap but look at the others and you may think differently, the way the store is run comes down the manager and not the company so don't give Pets at Home a bad name because one of their stores isn't up to your standards.

Just because they don't recommend fishless cycles doesn't make them a bad company or any other excuse for that matter, the fishless cycling one seems to be a big one though, people really need to get over the so thought taboo of fish in cycling, it is a totally appropriate way to cycle.

Seriously to all of you who label Pets at Home as a bad company your opinion is invalid, as it is totally biased.

Edit: Exactly, how many people you know (that are not studying it) have Zoology as a hobby?

lets keep it simple I will use the mcdonalds analogy for peeps to easily understand

we have 2 mcdonalds in chester.....

one is full of tramps and crap the other isnt they both sell the same burgers same price etc but they are both mcdonalds so depending on the shop you go in you will have a diff opinion even though your food looks and tastes the same
do you see my point useless poll............ with its present question

I will sum up the posts you will get
1. yeah the one near me is ok the other near me is bad
2. no they dont know what they are on about the fish are dead etc
lastly
3. they have the goods I need but I wont buy livestock

I know these answers as p@h has regular posts and they are all repetative nonsense if peeps dont like it dont shop there

If I owned the chain I would give each shop a diff name so that the reputation of a well run store isnt tarnished by another

When you say "Tramp" do you mean an actual homeless person or poor people?

Not only do I think you are ignorant, but I also think you must have the IQ of a carrot not to understand the poll.

Im not stirring up and im certainly not giving the company a bad name.

At this point I should probably point out that I work for pets at home

As an insider I wanted to know, use critism as a kick up the back-side in a way for improvements. I have visited over 20 stores as low as Slough as high as Oban, so I am certainly not basing it off '1 or 2' stores.

Ace of spades: There is no need to apologise.

James.

I won't ever set foot in another pets at home store as long as i live. the local ones in Gloucester and Cheltenham are absolutely terrible, I have found rat's with pneumonia, hamsters in wet bedding, fish with advanced stages of dropsy, whitespot, finrot and columnaris and thats just in one store on one occasion and that's no exaggeration, I have complained to their manager, reported the incident to their head office and also took the liberty of reporting them to both trading standards and the RSPCA.
The thing that really annoys me tho is they always blame their suppliers, but i'm not being funny if I had a supplier supplying ill livestock i'd do what most other people would do FIND A DIFFERENT SUPPLIER! . Half the staff don't know what they are talking about, and a lot of them are ill advised, badly trained or just plain ignorant.

Not all their stores are the same the ones in evesham, worcester and bristol all seem ok (i travel around alot and always make a point of checking out anywhere with fishes for sale)

phil140701. I value your entitled opinion

Thanks, James

I also apologise for using the word 'their' in the wrong context.

James.

pets at home in Wolverhampton is always immaculately clean, and the fish i have had from them have had no problems. I think you have to judge each store independently....

Thankyou for your input Rick.

Again, the word Overall is key to your answer.

James.
