Just thought I would ask the question about this uk based pet store. I went into one of their branches yesterday (Southend On Sea) and have to admit to being quite impressed with the range of fish that was there, especially 4 peppered corys for £10!! In the past I have had issues with snails from there but bought some guppys from there about 4 months ago and they were excellent specimens!! Staff in there also seem very knowledgable and helpful too!!

Thoughts??

One of my mates is the branch Manager of our local store, but I tend not to go there these days. I've had mixed luck with the health of fish bought from there in the past, and while they do offer some good deals on paper due to their buying power, I'd much rather go to a smaller specialist.

Generally they're rubbish, full of diseases. However some branches are OK.

Our local branch is fab and recently bought panda cories off them this week with no problems, had fish in the past and no health issues at all at decent prices, further afield though the other branch is not as good, think it depends on the staff, training and store manager x

Pets at Home Branches differ greatly, some are downright disgraceful while one or two are very impressive,

We have had 4 fish from Pets At Home and they have all died, they got white spot we told the store and they said it could have been caused by stress in transporting them but its never happened to any of the other fish weve got from LFS's. Dont know whether it was our fault that they died coz we were only newbies back then.
Everytime we visit Pets At Home we always seem to play spot the dead fish and theres always a few!!

Ive actually been meaning to ask the same question on here as we bought a fish tank from them and you get a voucher for £5 worth of fish but dont know whether to risk it or not!!

branches of P@H will always differ because they are all franchised. Although they have the same training, they are not all managed by the same people, we have 2 in Lincoln and one is better thank the other, however they're both not bad. I do prefer Maidenhead though as there is a wider choice in everything fishy.

I'll never go Pets At Home again, Every fish i've got from there has either died or been diseased.

I recently went into pets at home newport road cardiff and was really impressed.
There fish all looked healthy with no dead fish in site, their tank's were spotless and their marine section was fab, they have really cleaned up their act.
I would buy from them.

I didn't know there was one on Newport Road boeingtech i might have to have a look there. The one in Talbot Green is dire they admit that their fish are diseased. Still at least they are honest about it

Im glad I asked, seems like most have had the same kind of experience as myself. What a shame (

Some people aren't being fair here, most have been to a pets at home store and it was bad so they automatically assume every store is terrible, this isn't the case, some are brilliant, my 2 locals are excellent.

I'm not saying they are all bad. I applaud my local one for their honesty in saying not to buy the fish there because they knew they had a problem. All their other animals there always look well cared for and lively and active.

hi, i gave up on my local pets at home about a year ago, when i discovered a local maidenhead. i had a lot of fish dying from there, but they were always happy to replace them. to be fair though, they have probably improved since then. and, as mentioned in an earlier post, all of the other animals are really healthy. my two guinea pigs were really healthy, and came with a 3 month (hmm what's the word?) er guarantee. so, if they got ill they would pay for the vet bill. how good is that?!?

cheers
