Had to go and get cat food and wood shavings today, they had a very sweet Chinese hamster in the adoption part. Looks like they're just starting to get more in, so I was wondering whether anyone had done it yet, and how much they charge? Doesn't have to be hamsters, interested in average prices for everything.

We adopted "Spook", in my avatar, through Petland in April 2007. The adoption fee was $200CAD and included up to date shots and castration. He was 3 years old at the time. The adoption agreement included provision that I agree that we NOT declaw him and that he not be free range. Clearly this is only a moral obligation but is does speak to the concern that they have for their adoptees. He was up for adoption as his initial family had a baby that turned out to be allergic to cat. They still periodically call to see how he is doing but have never accepted an invitation to visit.

they usually ask for half of what there retailing at in store! so a chinese hamster will probably be a couple of quid.

Its odd that ive just read this as we have just adopted a hamster from our local pets at home,
we gave £2 but they dont ask for any money. :good:

personally i never buy of pets at home Livestock anyways because last time I went in they had to get rid of all of there birds and hamsters mice rats etc because of bad treatment and care which caused the rodents to get wet tail and this is why i completely disagree with pets at home's method and would advise people not to get there livestock from there because i actually find that the best livestocks come from smallerand more focused pets suppliers :good:

I bought a barraband parakeet from our local P@H, he was severely disabled and riddled with disease - psitacosis. He was not up for adoption but for sale alongside the other parakeets!

i must say our pets at home is quite a good one, theyve just completely overhauled it and its clean and everything appears to be happy. They dont sell birds just the usual rabbits, hamsters, gps and rats and fish of course.i have been in some pets at home in other areas that are shocking so maybe it depends on the individuals who manage the stores. We have 2 managers and 3 deputys in ours as its a big store maybe that makes a difference.
