Well i was just checking out some of the older forums on backgrounds, and came across someone who wanted to make their black background 'blacker', so he added petrolium Jelly to the back? Is this wallpaper paste? Are there other things that could also work in intensifiying the colour of the backrgound?

Petrolium jelly is used mainly for skincare or babys rashes and things like that, vaseline would probably be the best known brand of petrolium jelly, i dont know how it would make a background blacker.

By adding a very VERY thin layer of vaseline to the glass then smoothing on the backing you create an air free bond between the glass and the backing - this makes the colours of the backing more intense, with none of the bubbles that you (or at least I) normally get with tape.

Vaseline/petroleum jelly is used by some to make an air free joint between certain types of backing materials and the outside of the back glass. It is not wallpaper paste.

I paint the outside of my tanks with blackboard paint, 2-3 coats. Cheap and effective.

ya.... i just figured out by reading some other posts that it's not Wallpaper paste. I also would have painted my tank, but if i ever wanted to change the colour, well there could have been a problem.

Yeah I thought about painting the Back of my tanks but like you, if i ever wanted to Change the Color it would be a Problem, UNLESS I was moving and completely tearing down my tank...
This is WHY I stick with the Plastic Ones avaliable at my LPS, their Hard enough to Change Let Alone SCRAPE off like paint would be.
Now i could see putting Paint on IF you were putting the tank almost BUTT against the wall and wasn't Planning on movin it for a Very Long TIME...

Now there is a Use for Vaseiline How Ever.
You can use it too Lightly Coat the Sockets of your Bulbs to keep them from Corroding in your Sockets above your Tank, Thus Making them a whole lot eaiser to Remove when the time Comes. "BOTH" Incadesent as well as Flourescent.
Also it helps using a light coating on Tubing that you Connect to your Canister Filter, it Helps the tubing to Slide on a Tad Bit Eaiser. :)
