Hi all,
I am fairly new to the hobby and am looking to put some new stuff in my 20 gal fresh water tank. My question is about petrified wood I know that in the process of becoming petrified the organic matter is replaced by minerals. Question is I know people use them in tanks but is there any special care needed when introducing it to a tank ie cleaning or affects on the water ect.
thanks!

You need to give it a really good clean before hand as they are full of lose very small bits.

Also i believe it can affect your PH.

Petrified wood is generally a result of silification, although carbonate mineralisation can occur also, it is unlikely to affect the water chemistry, even if it did the change would be negligible, I've seen it used in a number of planted set ups.
