"personality" Fish

Aww, reading this thread makes me want an oscar,

Would people say that an oscar is the fish with most personality, or a midas maybe ?

The benefit of an oscar over a midas or red devil or flower horn is that oscars aren't mean as all hell

I think they are both pretty personable, just different kinds of personality thats all!

Oscars are like puppy dogs and will take food from your hand and let you pet them!

Midas are more like glass bangers, trying to attack pretty much anything through the glass. This isn't always the case though as every fish is different!

Well, I have not ventured into the larger fish...

But as I have said before, my keyholes are adorable little guys. Mad, but adorable.

I took them back to the LFS a little while ago on account of the madness which was brought on by bubbles. Don't ask me what about bubbles, I just don't know.

I missed them though, so got a much bigger tank and put everything in there and got my keyhoels back. People at the fish store though I was barmy - then again, I have bought the fish from them twice now!

They are still mad, but do seem to have calmed down. The other fish have plenty of space to move away from them when they are moody.

Although, I think they hate me for taking them back to the LFS for a couple of weeks.

like someone else said BP i also agree with synir ,
hybrid fish seem to have more character they depend on the individuel fish,
i am registered to the parrot cichlid room website aswell as this, all i can say is because of their parentage a blood parrot can either be an agressive fish chasing monster such as the red devil, or it can be a teritorial yet peaceable fish such as the golden severum,
i have seen flower horns in the lfs before at about 1' pacing around digging in the gravel and looking out of the glass at you, they are also very peronable fish.

I love my Plecos and they have pesonalaties hence one is called Grumpy spot! even tiny fish such as guppies can be very endearing I have a few that wil come and nibble my fingers if I am doing somthing in the tank and are not scared at all....its what you like and what you read into the behaviour I think in reality. :)

Freshwater I'd have to say blood parrot too...doesn't get too big (I'm talking about the regular BP's not the King Kong variety), has excellent color and personality galore. Saltwater has to be picasso triggers all the way. Very, very interesting and intellegent fish! Watch out for their bite though!! My trigger is still small but the other day he bit me because I was taking too long to give the food out! Hurt for two days!!

one of my puffers likes mysis shrimp while the other likes bloodworms.but they both love crayfish tails!

I can't believe I'm the first person to say BETTAS!!! :hyper: :hyper:

Just step inside the betta forum. Just one step. I dare you.

GOTCHA!!!!

z.

i was going to say that till i read further!!. My betta has an unbelievable personality and likes to follow me around (not literally though!!!)

My ADF's also have a fair bit personality, one loves to blow bubbles!! Nothing like the betta though, hes soooo cool.

well alot actually, just nothing with large or fancy fins.

I have mines with ADFs in their own tank though 9well I will whn i find my other two ADFs.

But you can mix them with

danios (not the long fin, only the short fin variety)
white cloud mountain minnow
snails
some people have success with livebearers - depends on each betta i suppose - my guy cuddles into the ADFs so i think he may get along with others.
ghost shrimp *get large ones, small will be eaten*

once again, the key is short fins and space for the betta to call his own.

Sooo, I'm the only one who found the "ugly fish have great personality" comment amusing? :look:

who needs a personality? there are plenty of other fish in the sea. Just like london buses, there's another one in 5 minutes...

Electric catfish have heaps of personality, so much so that my e cat is the only fish in the fishroom that has a pet name (Mr Hankey). Mr Hankey hand feeds in the most gentle way i have seen any fish do so just mouthing at the offered food with his lips until you let it go, and he is so desperate for attention that the moment anyone walks into the room he comes to the top of the tank and starts thrashing his tail in the water, if you ignore this for long enough he starts to make loud popping noises by sucking in air at the surface until you go up and touch the side of his tank and then he is content that you have acknowledged him. He also likes to routinely redecorate his tank by pushing sand and rocks about with his nose until they are in a position he wants them in, his tank layout changes on a almost weekly basis.

If you want a fish that is more like having a cat or a dog then get a e cat, just remember you cant stroke it.
