whats the best enviroment for small puffers such as dwarfs and figure 8

sand or gravel?

what plants if any?

what tankmates if any?

How many per gallon?

Best food?

dwarfs and figures 8s are not compatible. dwarfs are freshwater puffers. figure 8s are brackish.

except for sand, these two fish have completely different needs and preferences.

Dwarf puffer:
  • Well filtered fresh water
  • Sand
  • lots of plants
  • Dependong on tank size, other dwarf puffers, bristlenose plecs, perhaps otos
  • One per 5 gallons
  • Small invertibrates
Figure Eight Puffers
  • Well filtered brackish water
  • Sand
  • Plants not needed, and there's not much that'll grow in salty water anyway
  • Depending on tank size, other figure eights, maybe bumblebee gobies and not much else. Absolutely NOT bristlenoses, otos or other catfish.
  • One per 20 gallons
  • Small invertibrates, occasional peas.

He only asked what they require  IMO thats a sensible thing least he knows now

im not actually going to get any at the mo, no room for a tank, i was thinking about them in the future. i was never gonna mix the two i was just building a discription of what sort of tank a small puffer might need

:dunno: just stating the facts. topics like these sometimes don't get very quick responses since they are asking for quite a bit of information. since i've not kept either species and they both have rather specialist needs, i just wanted to make certain that the water parameter issue got addressed. i've seen several times on this board where someone unfamiliar with dp's/f8's waltzed in and started proscribing the exact opposite of their true salinity needs. this is always corrected eventually, but every so often the purchase is made before the information is corrected.

sorry if i came off a bit short. i did not intend any inflection one way or another, and i also knew that someone more knowledgable than i would show up with the correct info on everything else. (i've lately made several screw-ups by confusing species i haven't kept, so i'm trying to avoid any further bad advice.)
