i have two small percs, one just a bit bigger than the other, well i have been watching recently and she is starting to get a black colouration on her orange parts, which is slowly going further and further down her body, her orange has become really bright and the black markings around her tail and fins and really vibrant, she is about 1.5 in at the moment, i was just wondering whether she was a black and white perc and her markings hadn't come out when we bought her or if there is some thing else going on , i'll try to get pics but she never stays still!!

Cheers

hmmmmmmmmmmm not to sure about this phenomenon. never seen it happen to my percs. my guess is since its female it could be pregenant. i know some fish change behavior and color when impreginated. its color could just be developing if shes young. observe your tank and see if any other fish (particulary the other clown) are harrassing her. color change could be a sing of stress. check water conditions, try to find out anything thats stressing the fish out...

Percs come in many colour variations, most are the same fish but just seemto develop darker colours etc. I have seen this happen a few times now, a fish gets darker as it grows. I would not worry about it to be honest.

My true perc was a bitty baby when I got it and was almost solid orange except for the white band around the face. As it's getting older, its white stripes are coming in and eventually, the black will come out.

It's pretty common, especially in tank bred percs for their colors to be a bit different from their wild bred/raised brothers.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replys, i think it could be just her colours developing he black lines are a lot more defined now and her orange really bright, still has the black across the top but she is soo sweet!

Cheers
