This is aimed at those that have bred peppered corys...

Do you find that they got a lot darker around/during spawning?

I've got 3 mature (1 male and 2 female), but in the same tank I also have my group of pitbull plecs that spawn just like corys.... (eg lay their eggs on glass and plants)

I went into the shed tonight and there are about 12-15 eggs in the moss and on the glass...
I wasn't conditioning or trying to trigger them so I didnt have a tank setup to move the fish to...
I have now though :) and the eggs are in a bare bottomed 2ft with a filter and some javamoss.

All 3 of the peppereds were looking really dark - is that a sign?
I'm hoping its the pitbulls as some were looking quite plump last week when I looked at them closely.

Am I just lucky that they wern't eaten?

Do you mean the actual fish? One of my pepper cories got darker a few days before it died. My female that spawned recently was just big and plump before hand. Didn't really notice a change in appearance after spawning.
Also find some eggs are left uneaten, probably because they are not noticed as much when they are stuck to the glass etc. So your going to raise them? :D

yep - all 3 wer really dark blue/black

fingers crossed the little fry will be pitbulls then :D

Hi smithrc :)

Corys don't usually change colors when they spawn, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility that they could. Peppered corys are somewhat changeable depending on the light, so that might make a difference in the way they look too.

Peppereds, like C. aeneus, don't have to be conditioned to spawn, but you will usually get more eggs if you do it. Likewise, it doesn't take much to trigger them when they are ready. A water change, even with the same temperature water, will often be all it takes. If it was the corys, keep an eye on them because once they begin spawning they will probably repeat it a few times over the next few weeks. :D

looks like musical tanks for a bit then :) :)

Well... I went out to the shed tonight and what ever they are we have little ones of them :)

Still not sure what they are - they could be corys of small plecs at the moment...

I'll be posting pictures as soon as i can get some good ones :)

the little fry are looking like corys... nipping around the bottom (not up the glass at all)

we've got more eggs today too. only about 10 didnt get eaten but i razored them off into a net and mover them to the fry tank...

fingers crossed :)
