hi all,iv got some peppered corys & white clouds in a 35G uk tank thats been running for almost a year now.i fancy getting some ottos to help keep the algae under control abit.are they compatable?iv read up on ottos & it says that they could attach themselves to other slower fish.i know the white clouds are too quick for this to happen but what about my slower peppers????i dont want to risk them being injured.

anyone here kept ottos with there cory?

TIA shaz :D

Hi Shaz

How are those peppered cory fry of yours doing? Been a while since we last spoke.

We have a large community tank with 5 panda adults, 3 panda babies and 5 sterbai as well as minnows and other tetras. We had 5 otos, now 12 and they are all fine together. The otos sit on the bottom with the cories when I feed them eating the pellets alongside the cories and don't bother with each other.

When the otos spawned, I put their eggs in my cory fry tank and they've been raised with cory fry and no problems there either. I have seen one of my otos sitting on my BN's back, but nothing else.

They are cute little critters, just make sure you introduce them slowly, placing them in an ice cream tub or any plastic tub and add tank water slowly over about half an hour before putting them in the tank. They do seem to be hard to add, we lost all 4 of the first we ever got, but when we bought the 5 a few months ago we did this and they are still going strong, having spawned a few times for us too.

Good luck and keep us updated on your decision.

hi carmen, thanks for the info about ottos.my brother in law had some with his fancy goldies & i saw the ottos attached to them, thats why i asked. also, how many do you reccomend i get?think im def gona get some now.

the pepper fry aint fry no more, they must be about 6months old now.our big female died 2 months ago so weve been egg free for a while.yesterday morning when i got up there were eggs everywhere,so the babies are old enough to spawn_yayyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

havent been on here for a little bit as weve been busy building a concrete sectional garage & a conservatory.iv been on here reading a few posts to keep up to date.the pics you posted of your panda & sterbai are just tooooooo cute!the panda fry are soooo adorable!!!

Hey Shaz

Sorry to hear about your mama cory :( . You can't not get attached to them, they are so adorable and loving.

I've heard about them attaching themselves too, but think you'd only have to worry if you had slow fish. I'd say 3-5 would be a good number to get. Give them some cucumber or courgette every now and then. They don't seem to eat it on the first day, but the second they are all attached.

Wow, can't believe your babies are 6 months old already. Feels like just yesterday. Our pandas are only 4 months, and all the bronze fry we had before have all gone to the LFS. We also traded our bronze breeding group in because I couldn't do 200 eggs every few days. Plus we wanted to make more space for the pandas and sterbai. I did collect some eggs just before we traded them, so have about 10-12 bronze fry with our panda fry.

Is the work done then on the garage and conservatory?

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

i was gutted when 'big mama' died, there was no obvious reasons tho so not sure if she got injured laying eggs (there were eggs on the tank glass the morning i got up & found her floating).

im leaving the eggs that the 'babies' laid in the main tank,to take there chances.havent got time at the moment to put them in a seperate tank & raise them.

dont blame you for trading in your bronze breeding group,it does get a bit tedious keep finding eggs every few days & there are so many other beautiful types of cory out there.are you going to keep any of the bronze fry or trade them all in?

id love to have pandas but dont feel quite brave enough to get any yet as id be guted if i bought some & they died.

as for the garage & conservatory.the garage is done & weve just got the roof to do on the conservatory, thankgod!!!but then weve got to make a new patio etc.god, its never ending, lol !!!!!

take care & make sure you post more pics of your panda fry!!!

Morning Shaz

As soon as the panda and bronze fry are big enough, we'll be taking them to the LFS. I'd love to keep them all, but as you say, there are so many cories out there and I don't have space for them all. We are setting up a breeding setup, but I want to try breed the sterbai as soon as they are mature (seems to take forever with that species) and my red whiptails. I'd also like to breed my L260's at some point.

Good luck with all the building alterations. Hope you have a normal house again soon. Keep us updated with you cories progress. They sound really cute. Got any pics??
