Pencil Urchin Molting?

My pencil Urchin which I have only owned for about 2 weeks now appears to be molting. The outer coverings on his spines are flaking off much int he way a reptile sheds their skin. The newly exposed tissues appear rigid and healthy so I am not overly concerned about this behavior at tis point, but just want to make sure that it isnt something I should be concerned about.
