Hello all. I am going to start a 30 to 37 gal. tank and I want to put in a pair of Pearl Gouramis in it. What other fish would work well with them? I would like the Pearls to be the highlight of the tank.

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Maria

Almost any tetra. Even a couple different species.
The tetras in my experience do better with 5
and the Pearls will do better with 1-male and 2-3 females
I keep Gouramis with 2-males and 3-females. This keeps them more docile.....

Any fish that isn't overly agressive or fin nippers since pearl gouramis grow low flowing fins (mostly the males). A pair would cause stress to the single female since the male would be chasing her around. It is better to go with a trio 1 male and 2 females.

Yep, I agree with the above poster, a M-F-F trio works better.

With my trio I keep platies and cardinal tetras, and some corydoras and a bristenose on the bottom. I've had no troubles. :)

Just don't pick anything that will be a fin-nipper, or anything closely related to gouramis. Two different species of gourami in the same tank may fight.

hey,

i own three different kinds of gourami and they arent an aggressive fish at all. You can put any other kind of friendly community fish with them. You can always just ask at yur local fish place before you by fish to add with them too. They do work best in pairs but all of mine are in different tanks alone and i have no problems. They are so colorful and come in so many different varieties i hope you enjoy them. You have a good sized tank meaning other fish wont bother them as much

look at my profile and see what i have mine with. they work for me.

You can basically put any fish together with them, as long as they are not too small. I had my pears eating my neon tetras......
I have had no problems with finnipping fish; I am keeping my pearls together with serpae tetras, known to be the most notorious fin nippers, and never had any issue withthem.

Thanks everybody for your advice! I was on planning to get a pair, but now I will get two females and one male. I will research the other fish that were suggested.

Thanks again,

Maria
