I read the index but that didn't give me enough information about them. So what do you feed them and how big of a tank do you keep them in.

ill google it as i got on here too jus for peacock eels :p ill post again in like 10 mins :p

I have a Zig-Zag Eel (I think it's also a zebra eel) in my 10G and he is a really buddy to the other fish. No aggression at all. If have a small tank and want a spiney eel a Zig-Zag is the way to go. Didn't eat I think for the first week. Then he tried some frozen brine shrimp and he loves it. I dont think he likes mysis as much I did feed him an earthworm once but he never ate one after that. I had to hand feed him but now I just dump a cube in at night. He is very peacefull. He is in the gravel during the day.
I got a Striped Peacock eel in my 55G and I think he is around maybe 7-8 inches and I havent seen him eat yet. Tryed hand feeding him an Eathworm no avail and mysis and brine shrimp with no avail. Is live food the way to go. The only things I know sold live around here are guppies , ghost shrimp and brine shrimp. Which is reccommended. Right now he is with an African Knife and three Rainbow fish.

I just googled Zig-Zag Eel and it said you can keep it in a 10 gallon but it can sometimes grow 16 inches ? Zig-Zag Eel

Hmmmm well mine is really small I think around 6 inches. Had him for like 8 months and he hasn't grown.

I looked on the link and it said not more than 6" in captivity, and 10 gallons is minimum for 3" fish, afterwards it needs to go into a 35 gallon.

I own 4 peacocks and all mine have ever eaten is blackworms. They are fussy buggers but I love em to bits! I want to build a new tank soon (4 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot, approx 120 gal) and move them into it along with some bristle noses. I'll plant it heavily and provide cover with plenty of driftwood and rocks and see if I can get them to breed, one of the females is growing nice and fat so yeah, will see what happens.

I think i have got one of these eels.Well,it's an eel anyway. It was around 4inches when i bought it but has grown nearly 2 inches in the last few months. So is growing fast which isn't surprising as it eats anything meaty including little tankmates and is really greedy.
I only have the one as it was on it's own in a tank with guppies. The guy in the shop said it will reach about a foot long.

This may be a better pic. :) :) If it's not an eel, which it does look like, can someone post what they think it is as the guy selling it was rather vague.

:kewlpics: Its an eel alright not sure what kind I'll look around on google

It's a peacock eel, and unlike most of the other spiney eels, it is highly recommended to keep them in groups of 3 or so, as they prefer their own company.
