Peacock Eel Feeding Regime

ok so im having conflicting issues with tank size. i already have a 55gallon which im saving $ for to get set up (equipment and all that) and i already have that one peacock eel, the problem is if i put him in the aquarium as his permenant residence im afraid it will eventually be too small if i follow the rule of having a tank that has a width ratio of 1.5 : 1 for the length of the fish. the aquarium is only 12.5 inches wide. is that gong to be big enough? because i think my final stocking plans will be 3 peacock eels 1 half banded 1 zigzag. will this be suitable or should i just save some more and buy a bigger tank altogether? (i cant buy too much of a larger tank though, not sure i have the room for something so large right now)

get a tank that is the same length and height as the one you want but make it wider. Having a tank 6-12inches wider doesn't take up much more space but it does give a bigger surface area and more room for the eels.

ok last question-for now. when i get out of college in a few years im gona need to move the aquariums, i really dont want to move a bunch of them. so what i my question is if i go ahead and set up the 55 gallon i have now for them eel will he outgrow it within 2 -3 years? he's about 5" now. that would make it alot easier on me.

it depends on if you can find anyone to help you move your tanks.
Most people can move a 3ft tank by themselves but anything bigger than that requires 2 people. Having two tanks to move is more work but you can move one to the new premises and set the fish up in that, then move the other one.
If you have to move two tanks at the same time it isn't much more work than moving one. The biggest issue is how to transpot all the stuff at the same time. And that can be done with a van, utility or trailer.

ummmm wow, i cant believe i didnt think of that. if i can get the money for the 80 and the 55 to be set up, when i go to move i can transfer all the fish in one to the other, tear down the first one, move it, recycle it and then ill have a place to keep the fish in the new house while i bring over the second. how did i not think of that before? man i must be off my game. ok thanks Colin. i think what im gona do is set up the 55 right now and just start saving again, i can set up the 80 gallon as soon as i can (before the eel outgrows the first one) and then ill be able to use that 2 tank method when i move. brilliant! lol thanks so much. and i think iv got all my questions sufficiently answered for quite a while :good: if not you can be assured ill come back and start another thread   thanks to everyone for there help
