Aw, they are lovely! But then, you already know that don't you?! :D

Do you even have problems with the birds trying to fly through windows? Symon was sitting like Molly the other day - on the curtains not in the fish tank! - and got down the back of the curtains and was trying to get through the window. Don't worry, he's ok, I just wondered. Or are your parrots too clever for that sort of thing?!

They dont try and fly through the windows actually. They all have their wings clipped - Indie cos she flew away twice and Molly and Magic because they came like it! :) Although Molly is able to fly perfectly well anyway, apparently because she's so light! :)

I would imagine Symon was just trying to cause trouble!! I told you you'd have your hands full with him :p Looks such a little character!!lol

I wouldnt worry too much about the windows, once he realises he cant get through them he'll stop trying :) They're very intelligent! Just make sure you keep them closed when he's in the room, especially unsupervised! Its awful when they fly off!!!!

Cheese, If your worried draw the curtains when Symon is out, that might help. Like Jess says once he gets used to it he will be fine.
Both Calla and J.D (my parrots) are fully flighted and will fly to or from me on command. They will also leave wherever they are on command. Thats been very helpfully in certain situations. They dont bother with windows much, although Calla being the size she is sometimes lands on the curtain rail when she runs out of puff. J.D just hovers around like a little helicopter :D

I think your birds are beautiful Jess. All full of character and charm and no doubt keeping you busy. Looks like Magic is getting better already. I was thinking when I saw your last photos of him/her that some foot toys may help sort the foot problem, like physiotherapy. Check out Northern Parrots They have some cool foot toys or parts to make your own ;)

Is Indie a Congo or a Timneh?

That is what I am doing, only problem is that he is always out. I only keep him in his cage at night and when he chooses to go in.

I want to have them open as it's leaving the room really dark and my plants are getting no light. But then, I don't want him hurting himself.

What to do?

* sorry to hijack your post Jess :* *

Link - Im just searching through that site now! Thanks! :D I think ive used that one before - bought some coconut stuff i put in the toys - they love it!! I have actually taken Magic to see a vet since i last posted about him. She seems to think that his foot (only one damaged) has actually been quite badly broken and not set properly. I guess this could have come from the calcium deficency, i know from my Iguana that if they dont have calcium their bones become very brittle and obviously break easily, i guess its similar with parrots :)
She also suggested perches and toys but they will only help slightly as it is so badly damaged :( She did also say not to operate as the charity i got him from suggested, which i agree with - as she said he's coped ok for the last 9 years and he gets about well! It would probably just cause him more unnecessary stress and he's quite happy as he is!!

Ooh, i may post another picture of him later as ive got to get some pics for the guy at the charity, he was asking how his plucking has been going - He's gonna be SO impressed when he sees all Magic's new feathers! :D

Indie is a Silver Congo - which means she's bigger and moodier than the normal congos... Great choice wasn't she?! :/ lol Nah, she's lovely!

Ooh, CS - You may hijack as much as you like!! :D lol

Id say if he'll sit on your shoulder, take him around with you so you can keep an eye on him, otherwise you'll have to take all the plants out of whatever room he is in at the time!! Symon is more important than the plants! :p lol

"Hi, and welcome to Parrot Chat" :D

Glad to hear Magic is getting better. Grab yourself some Calcivet for his water. It wont hurt.
J.D is a noisy bird for his size. When he gets going Calla will shout out "J.D, will you shut up"

Your lucky you can do that with Symon, Cheese. You let Calla out of your site for a moment and she will have trashed something.
Make sure you get him out physically rather than let him wander out of his cage on his own. Saves dominance problems later ;)

Oooh, i have Calcivet, and Feather up! :D lol

What are JD and Calla? Small i assume? The Conure can make more noise than the Cockatoo and Grey put together... Deafening! And its not even a Sun Conure!!! lol

Brollies are worth it but they are very hard work. If Calla starts you have to leave the room because its far too loud to tolerate. 137 db I think :D
The tolerance for human hearing I think is 120 db or something, though I could be wrong

Errr... I let him come out on is own. :/

I can't physically get him out, he flaps around and gets stressed if I try to get him up on my finger or something.

Oh dear, oh dear.

Your birds are gorgeous btw :D
