Parrot Fish.

most do... i don't like some hybrids. It really depends on the quality of life the fish can have. If it has trouble swimming/eating then I don't really like it.

Parrotfish are man made freaks... why oh why do you persist in buying & keeping them? Are you aware of the torture these animals go through. Have you seen "Heart-Shaped" Parrots where they cut the tail off to deliberately produce a deformed fish...? What is wrong with you all... aren't there enough naturally beautiful fish to keep you interested in the hobby?

Yeah, thats great info and advice on how to help this situation there - well done you - yay! What say you - should we all make a mass effort to save these fish, then whack 'em on the head and flush them down the loo just because there's prettier natural fish out there? Wow - great plan :)

Excuse the sarcasm. I'm personally not a hybrid fan, my hubby has pestered me for years to get a pair of parrots and I've always said no - but in the end we got some from a private rehoming - and I'm very glad we did now. I would never buy a dyed fish, I'd never buy one who'd had it's tail cut off. But our two are very happy, they've just produced their second batch of eggs in the last couple of weeks we've had them, so obviously they're not too depressed about being alive. ;)

what's wrong with you INSIDE INFO.

did he say these were bleeding heart parrots? Did he say they were multicolored?

How do you feel about dogs? look at a pug or a wiener dog or a german shepard. They all have genetic problems because of what we've done to them. I personally don't like blood parrots but they are not that bad. They have some problems with there mouths but otherwise are ok physically. If the fish was suffering or couldn't eat because of the deformation, I could see your argument if not your method of making it but this person probably didn't even know that the parrot was a hybrid until you attacked them about it. So learn a bit of tact. blood parrots aren't the best fish to make this argument against you with but how do you feel about jellybean parrots (blood parrot X pink convict crosses not dyed bloods) They are hardier and healthier than many "natural" fish.

Jellybeans are hardier because they are not actually hybrids, they are short body pink convicts(sadly often dyed to make them more parroty looking).I have bred parrots with convicts and they do not produce these fish. Also not only are con x parrots infertile but these jellybeans(short body cons)breed 100% true and with hybrids this just doesnt happen. Also breed a jellybean with a regular con and you will get regular con fry. They are actually not that hardy, any balloon body/short body fish(balloon molly, fancy goldfish, blood parrot etc)are more prone to bloating and swim baldder problems due to their shape.I have lost 2 adult jellybeans(short body pink cons)to this.I do keep parrots and agree that although many do have deformed mouths they seem to cope just fine.BP's can get to over 8".My big regular female BP is about 7" and my female king kong BP is a little bit larger.

I just had a look at the auction thats horrible, heres Boss, I dont even think she would be able to move in that little orb thing.

...who incidentally laid their second batch of eggs in as many weeks last night. Wouldn't let hubby hoover 'em out - Mr parrot apparently has quite a bite on him lol.

Great lookin parrots you have, my lfs has a pair thats almost identical in a display tank.

Inside Info - I dont own one was just wondering if I was correct in thinking that Biorb was totally unsuitable for that amount and size of fish. Oh dear looks like I started an argument. I think the Parrot fish are lovely and didnt actually know they werent a natural fish - for want of a better word, thats what I love about this forum.

I know I shouldnt but I emailed her and asked if she knew how big the fish would get and she was really quite rude, saying Im obviously not interested and she had got some very good advice when she bought the fish, i apologised and said wasnt meaning to be rude and she replied NO NOT RUDE AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If that was me i would of been rude to her.People can be so dam ignorent.3 weeks ago i was round my mums,we went to a fish shop, there was a gigantic 24inch plus normal pleco and another big sailfin.I said to my mum.My ones nearly that big now.A woman over herd us and said to my mum, either that or they die & laughed, basically thinking i am child who enjoys looking at 'silly' fishes, probably doesn't even know it's a proper hobby  .I just felt like saying maybe if you cared for animals you inconsiderant old bat they wouldn't die :grr: :fun: .Just like the fear of snakes or lizards,it's out of complete ignorence,i went to a butterfly park (lol ,it was actually more of a zoo) and they got a few reptiles out, only one person was scared of snakes there, and guess what she had never seen one in person.By the end she was saying can't i keep her, she's lovely. That was her actual words lol.Sorry for going of plot.
