It's a long story. My parents won't let me have a larger fish tank for my tetras because I've been pulling out my eyelashes and eyebrows, and until I can pay myself at work, I can't have it. I don't want my tetras to die in my 10 gallon. I need a bigger tank for my cardinal tetras.

Hang in there, kiddo. Do the best you can with your cardinal tetra and things will work out. When I get in tough situations, dealing with worries, anxiety, etc. I try to focus on what I can control, and just make sure I'm doing the next right thing. Whether it's doing some homework, reading, relaxing with a book (important for my well-being) or whatever, just do that and let the rest go.

I have a tendency to worry about all kinds of things that I really can't do anything about. When I boil down my thoughts to focusing on whatever is right in front of me, the weight on my back doesn't seem so heavy.

Enjoy those fish in the meantime- they are very calming. You're doing the best you can, and they'll be ok.

Thanks. My parents need to be less strict when getting the things I need for my fish, a bigger tank included.

I don't know your age and you won't like what I'm about to say...

Are you looking at wanting your parents to buy a larger tank or do you have the money and they won't allow? If you are wanting your parents to buy the new tank it is on you for not populating the tank properly for the size. If parents bail out a child every time they goof the parents are hurting the child, not helping. If you have your own money for the new tank your parents are still right as, as long as you live in their house, they are the boss.

You probably now hate me forever but what I've said is plain and simple truth.

Yes, I wanting my parents to buy a bigger tank, but they won't allow me to do so. I understand on what you said.

I don't want to give you too much ideas... Your parents might not like me.

But if you google "Free aquarium near me"...

In Five minutes I Have found at least 3 that are really interesting and a leaking 6 foot long that could be resealed.

When we where young, we where always on the radar for anykind of "Free aquarium stuff".

I agree with @jaylach. You need to save money and then maybe the situation will be different. You can't be upset that your parents aren't spending money on your hobbies. I'm assuming you meant your parents want you to get a job in your first post? Are you old enough to work? Old enough to cut lawns or rake leaves etc? I'm sure there is something you could do to earn some cash or take MaloK's advice and look for free aquarium hardware; something that you could get without having to upgrade filters and heaters.

Well, you do need to listen to your parents. You're at an age that your parents are still responsible for you. And for sure they mean well. And yes, it's also their home that they are paying for (no matter rent or mortgage). And we do know how that must feel to be in your position. We were once your age as well. But we can also imagine how your parents feel about it now we're older. And Jaylach has already mentioned a good idea to seek for a free tank. Unless, your parents just don't want you to have a bigger tank.

Stop and read that over. You are clearly very smart, so if you saw someone else write that, wouldn't you see the contradiction?
You are not being stopped from doing anything. It's your parents who would have to do something in this scenario, and they don't want to do it. You can't make them.

Some things have to wait until you're mature enough to have your own place and your own job. Then, if you've saved enough, you can order up an aquarium.Til then, work with what you have and treat the fish you got well.

I don't have the money and time to own my own place. I have to live with my own parents until I'm ready to do so (it takes years to buy my own house).

We realise that, but you are asking your parents to buy the tank. They don't want to spend their money on a tank and you can't blame them for that. Many parents wouldn't allow a tank in the house even if the child did pay for it.
It's their money and their house and they can say what they spend their money on and what they allow in their house. Complaining that they won't spend their money on something you want won't get you a new tank.

I understand. But it's best to buy a new, bigger tank for my tetras.

You can't tell people to do things for you. You have to wait til you can do them yourself (which can take years) or not do them sometimes. You chose to get tetras, and now you have to deal with the tank size.
It will work out, in time.
