Hey guys! I treated my fish for gill flukes two weeks ago when they were rubbing against the ground. Yes, I could've avoided the whole situation, but it's too late now. I followed the treatment instructions: Put in 1 tablet for every 10 gallons, wait 48 hours, do a 25% water change, then treat again. I also treated the next week, so I could kill any hatchlings of the gill flukes. My fish were all doing better after treatment, then, two days later, they started rubbing against the ground again! I took the carbon out AGAIN, and put another tablet in. I noticed a little white spot on one of my platy's fins.

So, I'm really worried, these are the possibilities to why my fish have parasites again RIGHT after treatment:
1. They are stressed out because the tank is overcrowded, so keep getting diseases. (I'm getting a 55 gallon soon.)
2. When I put the carbon back in after first treatment, it still had some parasites left on it (for whatever reason, even though I rinsed it really well. I know I should be using new carbon, but that stuff was still good.)
3. The new zebra danios brought in a disease. (Highly unlikely, because one of my platy's was showing signs before the zebra danios came.
4. The platy that got her tail chomped off by my molly (her tail is healing now.) got a parasite while she was vulnerable, and then it spread to the rest of the tank.
5. The parasites are now immune to the medication, because I've used it so much.
6. There were still gill fluke eggs left for some reason, and then they hatched after the medication was gone.

You know what, I'll make this a poll, that way you can choose why you think my fish have parasites again. (Please describe why!)

I know I did everything wrong, I'm still mad at myself, no need to critisize, I'm already doing that.
And BTW:
ammonia: 0ppm
nitrite: 0ppm
nitrate: 15ppm
ph: 7.5
temp: 78F

PLEASE answer! Thanks in advance! :good:

I would wonder if they actually have gill flukes. Personally I would suspect something more common like velvet if they are rubbing.

What med are you using?

This can happen, It may be from your platy, although the most obvious one would be from the carbon. All are possibilities though. Try going down to your LFS and purchasing some AquaLife Sterazin, as it treats gill flukes and various other parasites.

I've noticed I offer loads of advice to you. I should charge by the word.

Thanks! Do you think it's immunity to the medication though?
I use Jungle Parasite clear.

HA HA that's really funny!

But thank you very much for all the help! I'm not very smart.....

I just treated once, and they are better now, but I'm not sure if one of my molly's has those red worms that stick out of their rear end. I haven't seen any, but she just stayed skinny after giving birth to an extremely unhealthy batch of molly fry. (That all died - They were stragglers...)
I have used medicated food, she's still not really fattening up at all.
Weird.

Oh, BTW, do you think the parasites are immune to medication?

Oh and BTW, they still do have parasites. They came back AGAIN! The platy has ich!
I dunno' what to do! I'm still treating with the med, but I'm scared my fish are just going to keep getting sick again! :(

Did the fish show any other signs of gill flukes apart from flicking and rubbing.
If you suspect your fish still have camallanous worms you will need levaimsole.

Actually it turned out to be ich. I treated it with heat and the medication.
I have a food with levimasole. Thanks.

Please don't medicate till you know what you are treating for. You can do more harm than good.
