One of my rainbow fish has had a sore on its flank for a few weeks now. I assumed it was a sign of a bacterial infection as on of the other rainbows was showing signs of dropsy. I isolated both in a hospital tank and began medication. The one fish with dropsy symptoms has died but the other with the wound is still alive and active.
The wound is about 7-10mm across and has formed into a lump about 4-5mm high. The scales are missing in the area directly affected by the wound. Every now and then a small white dot appears on the wound and then vanishes. I have also noticed just visible white dots swimming around the bottom and side of the tank.

Now here's the question....

Are these parasites and can they be removed with white spot treatment?

I have started treatment with the white spot med but I'm going on holiday in 2 days time and the poor thing is going to be on its own for a week. I fear he will not be around on my return. The hospital tank is not cycled and I'm keeping the water chemistry in check with water changes. Any advice would be welcomed!

Check out www.koivet.com they have very good imformation on also of diseases and treatments.

Looks like Anchor Worm or Lice.

Are they green?

need to treat with Dimilin or Diflubenzuron.

They definitely scuttle. Had a closer look at them last night. They have rounded bodies with a very fine short 'tail' sticking off the back end, a bit like tiny tadpoles. There are just loads of them right now. They move in a jerky motion all over the glass of the tank.
I think the fish has stopped feeding now too.
