In the short amount of time I've been into fishkeeping, I've not once heard a positive word about the Paradise Gourami other than to note its striking beauty. As far as I can tell, they are a very aggressive fish. If your two are both males, they will eventually fight. While not quite as bad as betta males in this respect, they are more aggressive than bettas with other species. Could someone who actually has these fish in a community tank put me in my place? Am I (and apparently a large portion of the internet) wrong? That's fine, I'd just like to know.

'Cause frankly, I'd love to have one. :shifty:

Mongobay's profile of the Paradise Fish states plainly: "Best kept in a species tank."

I kinda wish they could be kept in a smaller tank though, like the betta.

Hi Carolinesugar :)

I have a Paradise fish in my community and I have had no problems with him at all. The betta flares at him every once in a while but no attacks. Take a look at my signature and he is compatible with all of them. But I also heard that the males are aggressie toward each other so I hope you got a pair! Well good luck with your new beautiful fishies! :) HTH

Everyone seems to right on track so far..., males supposedly have longer fins and are usually brighter in color. Sexing is not the easyest thing but you have to be carefull not to get two males or they can fight and kill each other. I had two albino paradise in my tank and one just kept chasing the other so much that it hid all the time and eventually died! i could not tell which was which in the end because the albinos have red strips on them which seem to go from really bright to really dull and they both would go back and forth on their coloring. I work at a pet store and we get them in fairly often and the males are usually larger in size. i find them a fairly aggressive fish but are more aggressive to their own species then others in the community tank.

hiya, well they seem to be ok with each other, im still not sure if their a pair or 2 males, but then again wen i thought i had a pair b4 the girl ended up dead. and that was the lil girl that i was sure had 2 be a girl, as she was paler, and different shaped fins.

but i think that at sum stage if they do start fighting i will move 1 of them in2 a different tank, as they get on fine with the rest of the community.

thanx 4 all ur help every1!
