Can anyone help....??

Today we bought 2 honey gouramis....2 Angel fish and 1 paradise fish...all compatible according to the LFS.....they packed them up gouramies together and the angels with the paradise......

they have been in the tank (240litres) all afternoon along with 6 others guppy size fish.....

We have just noticed one of the honey gouramies has an eye missing....we have observed for a while and spotted the paradise fish attacking the gourani and trying to get to his other eye..

We thought the paradise fish were community fish...is this a known problem........???

Does anyone know

the honey seems ok with one eye...(my 5 yr son is crying his eyes out tho bless him).......

any hlep would be appreciated..(currently the paradise is in a net in the tank sepreate)

Paradise fish aren't 100% tropical, they actually inhabit cooler waters. Fish can live a normal life quite easily with only one eye but if the paradise fish is attacking the honey gourami it would be best to remove the aggressor.

Many Thanks.......

The gourami seems ok with just one eye........and we have the paradise in a net...altho cant keep him there too long.....not too sure what to do with him...take him back the lfs tomorrow maybe

paradise fish
gourami
siamese fighting fish<betta's

these fish should not be kept together in any combination.......

Thats not typically true...I have two dwarf gouramis and a betta in my tank and they are at complete peace. The only way that my betta will flare is if you put a mirror next to the tank.

my LFS said not to get paradise fish unless the other fish are bigger as they can be pretty aggresive . really nice fish though! my beta is in with my kissing gourmi and it's fine . granted the kissing gourami is only like an inch long it's tiny!

this is why i said "should not be kept" theres always cases where people manage things, lord i should know the things ive got away with in the fish world beggers belief

My bro has all of the above in his community tank.About 20 different gouramis,5 paradise fish and 1 male fighter.I can't say much to him as he would take my head off,but they're all fine.I did say that the paradise fish were 'very active' but no out and out aggression (ie biting or ripped fins).
Time will tell though, they are very much more bolshy than the other fish, constantly chasing at high speed and displaying while the others just go their own fishy ways peacably.

Depending on the tank size, the stocking density might help him out. With African cichlids, for example, 2 might be fine, 4 will kill each other, but 8 will stabilize again. With enough targets, aggression gets spread around, no single fish can establish dominance and become a bully, etc. I don't really know, since there's a world of difference between gouramis and cichlids, but I suppose on some level the same principle could apply.

Corleone,I think you are most probably right. With his fighter and the gouramis it's perfect, they all get on great. But the paradise fish are constantly on the go,squaring up to each other etc(This is amongst themselves though and they seem to leave the others alone).
Like I said,no damage done (yet),but after seeing them,I don't think that I would advise anyone to get multiple paradise fish for a community tank.He has 5,which all looked the same when he got them around 3 weeks ago,in this time they have changed noticeably, all bar one have got bigger and darker, with one really big and dark (I'm assuming this is the dominant male).
One of them however is still small and quite pale, possibly a female, whatever it doesn't look good,it hides all the time and neither scenario is good,ie,4 males to 1 female,or a badly bullied and stressed male :(
Having said that though, the op only has 1 paradise fish,so it will be iteresting to see if it is as brave without a bit of backup.

I heard Paradisefish is a big no no in community tanks unless you have em with big gentle cichlids like texas cichlids. I hear those two work.
