I have a 20 uk Gallon tank with some neons, black neons, oto's and some platies oh and some shrimp. I want to get a group of small corries (trying to keep the size of my tank inhabitants to a minimum - cos I like it that way!). My LFS has all 3 of the above little fellas in stock. all are about the same price and look pretty healthy. I would have the space for about 6 of the panda or hasbrosus and maybe more for the pygmaeus.

Any hints or tips on what would be best for my tank based on peoples experience with each type? My first thoughts are that the pygmaeus are probably the outside bet as they seem to be more of a midwater shoaling species than a true bottom dweller and this is not what I want with the shoals of neons.

The hasbrosus seem pretty cool and are probably my fave at the moment! tiny but more like a normal cory, panda's more expensive, and probably grow a bit bigger.

but anyway! would love to hear your views!

My tank has a sand subtrate, bogwood, and is quite heavily planted, slightly alkaline too. (ph7.5). Ideally I want a hardy species that are happy together, would be nice to get them to breed but not a priority, i dont have a separate breeding tank so unlikely that any babies would survive.

Thanks!

based on that i'd say not panda's, they can be very delicate.

so if your not mad keen on the midwaterness (that's a good word isn't it?! lol) of the pygmaeus that just leaves the hasbrosus. They're lovely, I'm after either some of those or slightly preferably some hastatus :good:

habrosus, panda are bigger and tend to be more weaker. and Pygmaeus tend to swim in the mid levels as well as the bottom. sand is a great substrate and all will love it.

Go for habrosus I have 12 in a tank and they are lovely, their markings are fantastic, got pygmaeus too but they are like dwarf bronze cory's so a little boring in colouring.

I have a 20L tank which im going to get some pygmy corys. Sounds like Habrosus are the ones to get. I agree corys do cost a fair bit more and are abit more delicate, plus they require cooler water which wouldn't suit your fish already in the tank.

Thanks all for the replies! And yes habrosus it is then! might even get some today!

Cheers all.
