Hi Everyone-
I just set-up my new 10 gallon this weekend. I am using "Cycle", and plan to add 2 dwarf guoramis and 3 panda cories next weekend.

First of all do you think it is too soon to add all these fish at once, even though i used "Cycle" and also a handful of gravel from my already established aquarium and am prepared to do 10% water changes every other day untill the tank settles in.......

and second.......can 2 dwarf gouramis and 3 pandas live in peace in a 10 gallon?

My tank is heavily planted with artificial plants, tall, medium, and short, and has 3 various sized clay pots.
Penguin filter with bio-wheel (Not sure of the model but it said it was for 50 gallons and up)
no air bubbler
25 watt heater.

Please comment!!!!! thank you! :D

First off, I would get an air stone and attach it to some tubing and to a small pump. It just makes for happier fish.

Secondly, Yes...the gourami's and cory's should be fine.

Third, No....I would not add all the fish next weekend. I would start with the 2 gouramis this weekend. Then the weekend after that if your ammonia levels are back down to 0ppm or really close then go ahead and get the corys second. They are more sensitive to ammonia and stuff so that's why I'd wait. After you add the gourami's your water levels are bound to go back up a little bit and then back down no matter WHAT you do!! ;)

Good Luck and Happy Fish Keeping (aka HFK)

hi there- Thanks for the info. I didn't want to use an airstone, because my filter is huge and agitates the surface alot! since the gouramis are surface breathers i figured that it i used an air bubbler too that they'd bounce around way too much!

Any advice on that?

I am going to have to say that two dwarf gouramis in a 10 is a no-no. Two males will almost always fight and eventually injure one of them, and a male will harrass a female. I tried both situations in my 10 gallon and neither came close to working. One male would be a beautiful addition though, and they are quite happy without others of their species. Panda cories get along with them too - in fact I have some with my dwarf right now. :) I'd say eventually end up with 6 cories if possible, they adore others of their kind and are much less introverted in a school.

hmmm i was wondering if dwarfs would fight each other. All the research i did on them and not one sight mentioned it. Now would they still fight if say I were to get a powdered blue one and a sunset one? I mean even if they don't look alike they would probably still know.

Hmmmm.....6 cories............yeah i could do that =) I just love those little critters. But definately gonna start out with just 3, and see how things go.

Any other suggestions on what would go with a dwarf and cories in a 10 gallon without taking up too much space or causing too much of a mess......and i am sorry but i do Not like neons! (i've had bad experiences!)

What about some red eye tetras? I Love those guys!

i have 3 bronze cories with a pair of male dwarf gouramis. they don't fight or anything and are peaceful with each other. I suggest when you pick dwarf gouramis to really look at their behaviour with one another, making sure if you get two males they do not fight with each other. Mine fight each other all the time chasing each other and pocking on another. Thankfully no serious damage has ever been done

You could always just sit back and watch your LFS tank for a while. See which gouramis are meaner and which are more shy?? Be specific and pick out maybe 2 more timid females or something??

I didn't know about your filter, sorry! I think just that would do, if it agitates the surface as much as you say it does!!

Good LUCK!

thanks for all your suggestions and inputs! I bought 2 mickey mouse platties last night, and plan on getting 1 dwarf guorami and 4 cories. I figured that a 10 gallon isn't very big and I dont want any of my fish to be uncomfortable. So i figured even though it depends on the fish I don't wanna take any chances that they may or may not fight with each other! :D

Hi Nina7777

I think you made a good decision.

But, before you add any more fish, let your tank go through the cycle with just the 2 you have. If you add any more it will be harder to control. Then, in a few weeks, add the gourami and later the corys.

By adding the gravel you have helped get the cycle going, but if you can get some used filter media it will help even more. :D

oh i definately wont put in anymore fish for at least 2 weeks! and even when I do that it will only be the one gourami. then i'll wait another two weeks before i get the cory's.

unfortunately i don't have any used filter media, as the filter i have running in my 30 gallon is HUGE!

I will be doing 10% water changes everyday though, to help the fish i have now make it through the cycle.

I still have my original tetra that i used to cycle my 30 gallon and he has been fine now for over 2 years! so i hope my platties make it through the cycle. I think they should though since I will be doing the water changes, theres only two of them, and i added some matured gravel.

SOrry a little bit off subject! THANKS AGAIn inchworm!

I have a 10 UK gallon tank with 2 panda corries and two male gouramis I've had them a week now and so far they ignore each and seem to be doing fine. There's also a betta and a plec - also no probs with the corries
