i hope someone can help before this becomes an ermergency.. my panda cory seems to be slightly unwell, that is hes eating and moving around ok but he s been flicking his body and his top fin which is normally all black seems to have patches of pale colour on it.it doesnt look ragged or anything tho. ive seen whitespot on my beacon tetras a few years ago and cant see any spots on the panda. any one have any experience of this, would appreciate all replys :) pebbles

Have you done a nitrate test?Scaleless fish tolerate nitrates far less than scaled ones and the first sign is normally flicking/rubbing and loss of colour.

thanks for your prompt reply, no i hadn't done a nitrate test in the last week , so i've just done it now all seems well, any other suggestions pebbles

if the temp is up in the 80's turn it down to 78 just to see and as tanked said check for nitrates. my fish used to flick when the water was hottish also make shure you have enough oxigen in the water. the only way to do that would be to airate or get some plants if you dont have any. the advice may seem kinda general but i dont know much about the tank.

the tank has been running for about 6 weeks ,cycled really quickly due to filter inserts ,some water ,and gravel being taken from another tank. all water tests have been ok for three weeks now ,the rocks and plants came from the other tank as well along with algea on the stones! wondering if i should add some melafix to be on the safe side. i know that corys are a bit more sensative to medications than other fish, so i need to be sure to do the right thing thanks pebbles

I wouldn't add any treatments without seeing a more positive sign of illness. Besides, you have no clue what med to use as there are no signs of fungus, bacteria, etc. As different meds are used to treat different illnesses, it isn't a good idea to just start adding things to your tank. Adding anything to your tank as far as chemicals and medications can throw off your water parameters and do more harm than good. That is why hospital tanks are so highly recommended!

I would keep an eye on it......could be just an itch!

for a second there i thaught you said something different i nearly had a fit of panic.

i would call it transparent, just seems to have lost the colour, has stopped flicking now and seems active and well.about one third of his top fin is without colour... pebbles

i noticed that but didnt have any useful information to tell,my panda is still alive and well but i have noticed his body looking a bit off colour, he eats and plays normally but there is still something about it that makes me uneasy, his pale areas seem to have a slightly 'dirty' look to them ,if anyone has any ideas on this would be pleased to know.i'll just keep watching him . totalbolshevic, just how pink is your panda ,i would have described mine as pale flesh coloured pebbles :)
