Hi I am in the process of planning a second tank and one of the options I wanted was for a group of South American Puffers but its been pointed out to me on an other forum that the tank I am planning (around 30 gallons) is not suitable for keeping a group of these zippy clever fish in.

So I started to look at other options but in a visit to one of my favorite shops today I found some Palembang Puffers and I am seriously considering one as a lone specimen - though some people have had success with keeping 2 together? But not sure if I would try it?

So what do you think? Has anyone had any experiences with these kind of puffers or there relatives, is a 30-35g tank large enough for one or even two? What are your views on keeping more than one.

Also do you think that any tank mates are possible like really fast danios etc? I have seen one video of a healthy looking specimen that lived with a banjo cat and a bristlenose plec but...... one video not a massively reliable source.

Any help or advice would be great :)

Thanks Wills

Ive never heard of one before and google didnt really bring up much. Is it the same as a Tetraodon palembangensis/Humpback puffer?
If it is they get to about 8" but arent very active so from what ive read a 48x12x12 or 36x15x12 would work for a single one.

Thanks Kizno :)

I have had the plug pulled on this plan now so its not going to happen, pretty gutted - very gutted as since fallen in love with the one I saw today.... gutted gutted gutted - I knew she wasnt listening to me when I was on about it yesterday but she could have said something before we traveled an hour and a half to gather inspiration for a 3 foot fish tank.... bah
