Looking at setting up a new tank (refer signature) and wanting to add several Pak Loaches withing a community tank to include Angels, Gouramis, a black shark and a few Bristlenose.

I was told by my LFS that Paks are more active then Clowns and that you dont want to have too many in a community tank........

If so, how many would suit my tank??

They should be okay. The black shark and loaches may have some issues, but someone with experience with that combo could give a better answer.

I always recommend a group of around 5 for all botia species.

I would look into getting a dewormer for the loaches when you get them. Internal parasites are relatively common in loaches. You'll also want to try to fatten them up as just about everyone I've ever seen in a store is skinny. They'll eat most sinking pellets and/or meaty foods.

Thanks loachman,

What sort of dewormer would you be referring to then??

I've had Clowns without a problem until septicemia hit my tank 4 weeks ago and they were the first to go..........

This is supposed to be a good one. There are some commercial ones sold at pet stores, but it really depends on what is available in your area. I've not had much luck with them eating the medications infused into food, although those should work well if they eat it.
