hey fellow ppl

just wondering wot type of paint and procedures i should use to paint my 4ft tank...
mainly on the types of paint i could use and how much of it?
also is thre any special treatment toward tank before and after painting the tank?

PS: looking at a black BG :)

I would avoid using an oil based paint and go for a water based. I'm sure several people will tell you thated an oil based paint without any problems, but I have twice in 32 years of tank manufacturing come across instances where an oil based paint has reacted adversely with the silicone, leading to major problems on both occasions. Howeve, that's just my experience.

For the last 15+ years, I have painted the back and if desirable, the sides with 2-3 coats of standard blackboard paint. The points being, I a) paint the outside surface of the tank and b) several coats are necessary to get a deep enough black on glass.
