Painted Parrot Fish

no I haven't seen a blood parrot breed with a pink convict. I'm only going by research. Have you? What did the Blood Parrot X black convict and BP X JBP mixes turn out just out of curiousity?

and vancouver how is this pointless? and how is it an argument?

Not actually a BP x Pink con but you would expect BP x JB to look even more like JB's and they dont at all(for a start they are striped, none are pink). When you say research did you actually see pictures of someones BP and pink con with eggs and pics of the resulting fry or even just someone saying they had JB's from this spawning even without picture evidence?I have seen plenty of sites saying thats what a JB is but not once have I seen any concrete evidence, it appears to be something someone made up and people just beleive just because they have no reason not to.Have you seen balloon rams? Basically a short body version of the blue ram(looks like a little JB in rams clothing really)well I have seen plenty of sites that say these are ram x angelfish? I dont mean to sound harsh and I will be happy to post pics of BPxJB and BP x Striped convict :)

by research I mean that I've read it in quite a few different places, no concrete evidence as you have stated. do you have anything to back up your balloon convict theory?

I'd love to see those pics. thanks

If the mortality rate is 80%, doesn't that mean only 20 DO make it to the shop and 80 die?

I'd imagine that this statistic applies to dyed fish regardless of whether they've reached the store or not - so 80/100 die and 20 survive until they die of some other cause (not dye-related).

It's probably quite a meaningless number though anyway - who comes up with these? I don't think anyone's seriously looked into it.

I think it suffices to say that a lot more die than we'd like but that not enough die to make the process useless in terms of exploiting it for profits.

edit: BTW, if you take a look round the internet, you'll find that balloon pink convicts, as well as parrot hybrids, are called 'jellybeans'. Simialrly, dyed parrots are also often called jellybeans.
