Painted Fish

*huggles Puffer_Freak* Now calm down ... I dont think thats how (s)he meant it. I think this person just wasnt aware of the fact that people actually dye fish and was just surprised! ... I dont think any harm was intended

just dont let it bother ya ;)

Personally, I think it is indeed Bad that they dye fish ... however, I dont think it would stop me from buying them. Its not like we (because we know) will stop those that dont know from buying them, and as long as that happens, they'll still be dyed. And well, I'd prefer this poor fish that has gone through that much already to be happy in my tank, with someone who cares and 'knows a lot more' about them than those that they will end up with if we Dont care for them. I'd really rather see them have a happy life after what already happened to them than them ending up in an un-experienceds aquarium and has even more stress till he dies of it

*edit* ... after re-reading this, it doesnt make that much sence ... but hey! I know what I meant with it, and maybe you'll be able to figure it out as well :p *sigh* ... should practise my english a bit more and actually think before typing :p

Its a fair point. I just don't like the practice. At all. One bit...

...Calmed down again...I get your point though, but I think if unexperienced people were educated, and we didn't buy them, then maybe they wouldn't and no one would, but I do get your point entirely!

the fewer people who buy them, the fewer will be produced. even if the practise can't be stopped completely, isn't it prefereable for it to decrease?

No, it is not ok to buy them thinking that we are 'rescuing' them from other more inexperienced fishowners. Because bottom line is that they are still being purchased so the owners of the stores will continue to sell them.. vicious circle. We must educate people about why they should not be sold to begin with.

You can get fish in any imaginable color with having them injected with ink so whats the point? The people that buy those "jellybean" fish don't realize that they are injected with harmful chemicals. Its basically pet stores exploiting their customers, which seems stupid to me because the fish mostly die when they get home and then the customer either brings the fish back for a refund or stops keeping fish and the store loses customers but thats just my opinion.

That's true, I don't like painted fish neither. The process is horrible, it kills most of the fish, and it's of course, artificial.
