Sorry i dont have a pic of this but i was in a petland the other day and seen the most amazing fish. It was called a "Powdered Electric Blue Cichlid" Could this of been painted or not. And if i was to buy the fish and it was painted would it die. Thanks in advance. And no i dont support painting fish!!!!

there is an african cichlid that may well fit this description, i think they are called electric blue...

There are many cichlids (particularly malawian) that fit that description. I wouldn't think it was dyed. It seems pointless to dye fish that already come in shockingly bright and varied colors - particularly seeing as such cichlids already exist and are quite common and easy to breed. However, I wouldn't buy it without researching its requirements first anyway. Find out the scientific name and look it up. Cichlids are one of those fish that if you don't do the research on you can end up with a lot of problems - keep in mind the special water requirements of many and of course their aggression and breeding behaviour.

The common one referred to as "Powder Blue" is the Pseudotropheus Socolofi. It's a mbuna. Look it up and see if that's it - if so it's definitely not dyed.

Opps i screwed up, its actually a Gourami not a Cichlid. Its called a Powder Blue Gourami (Colisa lalia). Here is a pic. I dont think that it is dyed.

I gotta get me a couple of these fish they have such awsome colors.

its either a electric blue, or a powder blue cichlid, (is it possible to cross the two?)

Alot of peole who see African cichlids think they are painted because of there striking colors but infact they do not need to be dyed to make nice colors. Colbolt Blue, Powder Blue and Eletric Blue cichlids are not painted. Even the one in my sig on the left is a new world cichlid and with fish like that why would you buy a painted fish true?

Those are Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami, I had some and they are beautiful fish. They also have some that are red(I can't think of what they are actually called).
